Hi,
I thought I'd whip out the rear shock this weekend, clean it and grease the linkage too.
However, when I came to try to remove the top mount bolts it looked near impossible. Direct access to the left hand side allen bolt is blocked by a frame bolt and it's housing.
Is there a knack to this or am I being a bit dim?
Cheers.
BTW, I'm also struggling to tell if it is an allen bolt or a Torx!

In the manual it’s a very long Allen key 10? And it should fit past the subframe that way

Thanks for that :-) I'll get onto t'internet later and order one. Is it torx or allen tho?

BTW, Where can I get a copy of the manual (I'm guessing you mean the workshop manual)?

I believe it’s an Allen key type though I’m not near mine to check. I’ve not seen any torx ones on Aprilia’s thus far so I’d suspect you’re safe with Allen head but wise to get a torch there. Lower one for the dog bone would give a good indication

It just so happens that I re-fitted my rear shock yesterday after removing it for a clean and to have the spring re-powder coated.
It was easier for me as my fuel tank has been removed and the plastic trim immediately above the shock was also removed which meant access to the top mount was much easier.
However, even with the trim and tank fitted, access is fairly straightforward.
For the right side (sat on bike) Allen head bolt you'll need a 8mm Allen head socket on a long extension. For the left side its a 15mm standard socket on a short extension.
The bottom mount is slightly more challenging as the RHS nut is blocked by the exhaust downpipe, so you may need an assistant to hold that nut with a spanner and undo the bolt from the left side (providing that the bolt has been fitted from the left side)
I smeared a little coppaslip on the bolt shafts, but only because I replaced the three bottom bolts and nuts with titanium items then torqued them up to what the manual states which is 50nm.
The shock top mount is also 50nm.
