Well not new here, but back on an ape. Used to have 2000 Gen 1 with all the goodies.... Found an 2004 Rsvr factory all alone in a garage. Milage 6700km, yes i know about the reset, but this has the papers looking legit, so dont worry me. It has been in hybernation for 7Years😱🤪 OMG LOVE IT.
Doing full "overhaul" all rubber, fluids etc. Getting it back for summer flings. Been taking her appart, checking every bolt, fasteners and cleaning.
The design looks so good even today. https://www.dropbox.com/s/f73lfxqdjsvj173/20191112_140613.jpg?dl=0" rel="nofollow - https://www.dropbox.com/s/f73lfxqdjsvj173/20191112_140613.jpg?dl=0 Old red one. https://postimg.cc/47d5RQSc" rel="nofollow">

Loving the bike's in the snow on the drive quality!
I know what you mean about the rotax mate I had three, bought a triumph which is a cracking bike I have to say but couldn't resist another ape so I bought another Gen2 recently but I'm breaking it as it's a cat c with all the desirable bits bolted on . The carbon looks cracking did you sand it back and fresh clear coat? One note not mentioned is the early Gen2 bikes had a recall for the swingarm cracking from the riv nuts on the inside, chain side. Good swinger one rivnut bad swingarm has two. If it's not been done you can get it sorted by aprilia but its a loooooong process.

Hi, thanks. Yes sanded and cleared. Swingarm has only one rivnut, and i am missing my top chain guard. Yes the carbon is looking better, like i shiney.

Just going over every nut and bolt. Bike has bee dormant/sleeping for 7 years😨😀 So just be safe, and peace of mind. New radiator the other was leaking. Flush the whole system. Found many loose bolts here and there so, it's worth sorting out.
Still snow so, good to do something. Getting welded new connector pipes, so it is getting there.

Well it was a while since i rode the old one, but.
You sit higher on the new one. The old one felt like more torque down low, but new one comes like a 750 on steroids when you pass 6500rpms.
Since this is factory, steering, damping and such is top notch. In my book. I have to say rhis is more than enough power, for anyone on the street. I love it.
F...kn hate the dash piece of sh*te. Trying to figure out what to do, do not want to pay big money for a new one.

Problem with the gen2 dash being canbus you can’t swap it for another make of dash easily as the functions run through it, I think the newer dash’s buy companies like hm work but aren’t cheap.
|
Posted By: Ice-mille
Date Posted: 19 Apr 2020 at 22:30
|
Yes but still.
I used to be an audi tech. And by their/my Standards it is not a full canbus, if you understand what i mean? They handshake yes, maybe. But on real canbus systems you have ro code new dash in, if you change it out.
Just stay with me here, and on this you can take old/new, plug in start and drive. I know there are much more systems and other cu's to talk to on a car but still. Could it be just as simple as the first canbus systems, and you put in propper resistance an it will start. I messured and can high/low give tot.238ohms So i am going to try this, some triumph owners had success on their bikes with resistors. So f it try and fail/or not.
The following quotes from the 2005 Chassis Workshop Manual may confirm "No sensor (apart from the fuel reserve sensor) is connected directly to the dashboard ; the dashboard reads from the ECU. All sensors/switches are connected to the ECU."
it ia a bit presumptious of Aprilia to claim that the RSVR has a CAN bus, when all of the sensors and actuators (which one might ordinarily expect to be CAN-controlled) are hard-wired into the ECU.
Are you with me, just trying to think loud, and hear what you guys think/mean/know.
Thanks John

Still standard airbox.
I live on an island with alot of dust, still got ash swirling around after last volcano erruption. Eýjafjalla-jökull.
What kind do you have and does it seal well?
The speedometer does not hold, odometer or rpms. So annoying.

regarding dash I don't mind it it does mist a bit think iv seen a few gen2 on old post with translogic dash on them don't know how much they cost tho. |
It's not even just the cost,as I understand it ( and assuming nobody's thought of a work around) you have to keep the original dash plugged in and hidden on the bike somewhere on a Gen2.
Not done this myself but I'm pretty sure someone who'd done the mod mentioned it long ago

Sorry just ranting cause it is malfunctioning. I am looking around, but it seems there is and id, hidden in there somewhere, will see what i will do.
Found a nice little touch screen speedo in Germany, maybe i will just put that on top off the old one.
I have to have a working odometer, i can not have 0kms every time i start the bike, and for innsurence...

Read that too, have to leave old one plugged in. We need a hacker to draw out the binary code and load it in to new speedo or something like that.
