Just stripped the cam covers off my bike to check the valve clearances. Noticed that the cam chain for the front cylinder is pretty tight in all positions but the rear one the tensioner shoe flaps around all over the place. I think they are hydraulic tensioners and the bike probably hasn't been run for a 3 or 4 weeks - could it simply be the oil has drained out of the rear tensioner or is the tensioner fubar?
It has had a rattle for a while now which is what has prompted me to check the clearances in the first place.......

Change the rear tensioner, nice easy job. It will clatter when you first start it but as soon as the oil pressure builds up it will quieten down. | Yep - front one is an absolute PITA, took ages to get access, and even then it's still not easy to get everything threaded back up again. |
