Looking for a bit of advice. Coming back from Bristol yesterday enjoying a 'spirited' ride the mille cut out at quite high revs in 2nd. Only a split second but enough to pitch the bike forward, only did it the once.
What would the usual suspects be? I am guessing electrical, possible side stand switch? Any other ideas?

does it have an alarm?
mine had similar issues that griff traced to a dodgy oil pressure sensor and my old datatool alarm was on the blink, ripped it out and the bike has never missed a beat since, the oil pressure switch is common, give griff a ring tomorrow and he will sort you out, he has them on the shelf :)

It does have an alarm that so far has been reliable. I hand 't even considered the oil switch. Guess Griff could be getting a call soon

Rev limiter is a soft cut compared to this.

I have had almost exactly what you describe on my T for some time, nearly kicked me off twice in one weekend.

I have so far stripped cleaned, checked fuel system, fuses connectors etc, plugs out and gapped. Honestly think cleaning and gapping the plugs has made the biggest difference.

Going to get the throttle bodies balanced next and see how that helps.

Griff has given me lots of advice over the phone Wink

Not sure I have got to the bottom of it yet but will let you know if I do.

Couple of things.  Bike induced defect or after market induced defect.

Aftermarket is the alarm/immob breaking a running circuit.  Dodgey wiring or dodgey alarm unit.

Bike is the following, and all of these have been seen:

1. Sidestand switch
2. Kill switch
3. Oil pressure sender

With 1 and 2, either the switch and/or the wiring is the cause.  The kill switch wiring has been known to fracture where the handlebar lock to lock action bends the wiring.

With the oil pressure switch, it does not cut out, but fails the engine to a limp home RPM which is about 2500 RPM max......

so the question is this, did the engine cut out or did it reduce revs feeling like a closed throttle?

After that is less common, bad connections at the coil, fuel pump, earths, battery and so on.

There isn't a lot to these machines, so your going to have to look at it logically, for example, what exactly were you doing when it happened?  What was the bike doing?  What was the road like?  Bouncy, pot hole, or were you slow turning on a tight lock, reving hard, or coming down the revs closed throttle.  Have you noticed strange issues with alarm/immob, ie, you disarm, but it refuses to start?  Or starts on 2nd/3rd go?

Beleive it or not, all these questions are relevant....so if you can remember exactly what was going on we might be able to steer you in the right direction.

A good afternoon on the bike may help you eliminate all of these options above, but also doing some rudimentry 'fixing' may prevent it happening again....change the oil pressure switch.  I'm on my third one now, so they do go.  I've also removed the side stand switch, as had 2 go AND the wiring go.

If you have a gen 1 bike....here is another one that can give you similar issues.  Have you got a shorter K&N filter in with a foam pad on the top to hold it down?  I've known of the foam pad to come loose and cover the inlet trumpets, in this case the engine got starved, the guy nose dived the whole lot went loose and it flopped out the way and worked normally again.....did it a couple of times until I had a looksee.  Worth a thought anyway.

yep know your pain, the hinge bolt is slotted, so you just need to loosen the bolt under the black clamp and slide it back....

I only found out once Ash of these parts pointed it out Embarrassed

The long bolt under that black bridge NOT the four bolts holding it down, the rubbers are slotted so you just need to loosen the bolt and the tank moves back a few mm's

Thanks Tapmyhed, a few good pointers there. The bike is a gen 1, alarm is datatool 3. Bike always starts first time.  Cut out was a hard cut, not a shutting the throttle feeling, happened  around 8 - 9k in 2nd accelerating. Road was normal quality A road ie not particularly smooth and in a straight line.
I was working along the lines of sidestand or other loose connection.
Took the bike to work today but couldn't get it to do it again. Will have a good look around at the weekend, good excuse to take apart connections, clean and re-seal with silicone grease.
