Last friday a parcel force van reveresed into the bike while I was sitting on it at work, nearly dropped it but managed to keep it upright but the damage was to the exhaust, didn't see me apprently furious isn't the word, cans a write off. Put the standard wheelie bin back on as it was booked in to fit a new shock today, just as well it got changed, I'm sure their shoudnt be a gap in the bottom mount...FFS

Lucky. Are you sure the van didn't split the shock mount?

I thought that might be possile but the edges of the gaps manky so looks like it's been like that for a while, parcelforce don't have an insurance company, it's their solicitor I need to go through, to be fair they phoned me yesterday, another Akra,s on its way..from Italy..to which parcelforce are getting the bill...

Looking at the state of the shock, when was the last time you got on your hands and knees and inspected / cleaned it?
Bike looks in very nice condition from standing eye level, it's the hidden parts you need to keep an eye on. No way that was done by the van. Not the first rear shock on an Aprilia I've seen go like that.

Terrribe whiplash too....The shock was always getting changed at some point, wasn't like that at last year's service day though, still lesson learned..

you done well to stay upright must of been a hell of a whack. At least they've covered the can but a nice new shock would be even better.

Whist being unlucky with the van, you were actually very lucky that it drew your attention to the shock!
Someone up there is looking after you. Buy a lottery ticket this weekend I had a transit reverse into mine years ago. I wasn't on it, but had just got off and was walking away. He heard me shouting for him to stop just after. His window was open and he looked right at me, then sped off! Turned out to be a cloned van. B******!! |
