I know the common sizes are either 190/55/17 (currently fitted to my bike) or 180/55/17 but has anyone tried the new to supersport 180/60/17 size?
Any good or not?
I intend to only buy scrubs for the rest of my life as rubber is really expensive and these have started getting common from last year so I am sure there will be loads on offer this race season too!.

I do the same and they're as good (if not better) than the 55's they replace.

Ace news.
seems to be pretty standard to get a pair of supercorsa's for £80 which is better than over £200 new.

the only way of describing supercorsa's or any track tyre is a weird feeling like somebody is holding either side of you and guiding you into the lean ... just pure confidence inspiring stuff, all a 60 profile will do is jack the rear up a little bit more, making the bike turn in without as much input ... get a damper lol

What pressures do you run on these?
Found a site that sells them for £80 16-18 laps from new.
Why do they sell them?  I cant help but think that if they are past there best, then why would you put them on your own steed?  If you can answer that, then I'll join the 'scrubs club' as over £200 for a set is really quite expensive!!!

Cheers!

I've been speaking too a few guys on Another forum about scrubs, n if u can get a good source,a sstk team with a good budget they will not risk a good race,so they have a good turn around on tyres, but if they're not as listed (eBay) I wouldn't bother
I got 2 sets of racetecs last year from same chap which were wicked, but his not racing this year DOH!

they only let them go becuase the used tyres wont last as long as they want them too, after the first couple of heat cycles the ultimate grip will tail off, nothing dangerous at all unless your rossi it wont bother you, and if your using them on the road then you will be absoloutely fine, just look for any large amounts of blue on the tyres ... and give them the old finger nail test and see if theyre still tacky, if their blue and hard ... walk away

In racing they use a set of new tyres for a quali session or race. once these have been through a heat cycle or 2 they will be past their best for racing where they are chasing tenths of a second per lap. on the road they are ok unless you push your tyres to the max I guess.
Also on track the edges wear out first and on road normally the middle so you still get a tyre with loads of meat on it.
£60-£80 a set v's £200+ for new

I'd like to think I was a 'rossi' level rider, but really I'm just a 'podgy'...which sounds like it if you say it quickly.....quicker than I can ride anyway....so I might give these a go next time I have to change.

190/55 ?  surley 190/50 . ive had 4/5 sets of pirellis now but 180/55 rear they are amazing in good weather i run metzeler over winter im sure someone in the know said fitting the 180/60 will be fine as long as it clears the hugger the racing teams are using them because they give better traction and grip over the 180/55 and changing the gearing offsets the taller tyre so ive ordered my sprockets already for my first set

I use Racetecs bought from the BSB paddock and the only problem is when they are cold, they feel under inflated but once warm, wonderful.

Trumpet tyres mate.

If you can't see ones you like, call him. He says he always has slightly less scrubbed ones that cost a little more too.

I went from 180/55 to 180/60, difference is not massive but bike feels easier / quicker to flick over into a bend.

im confused  nowas 180/55 and 190/50 are harder to get we have crazy legs saying the 180/60 wont work and others say it will im thinking they have to be as tall as the 190/55 and some seem to use them too not to mention the 190/60 spmeones using do the gen 2 and gen 1 have differant fitments then ?

Mine did fit but had to mod the hugger a little where the hole is what I did not like was it pulled a few stones round and they would scratch the inside of my swing arm it was a supercora I have I just did not want it to keep scratching it

For what it's worth I'm currently running a 190/55 SportSmart on the back and compared with the 190/50 Pilot Sport it replaced it's several mm further away from the chain and the bike sits about 9mm higher at the rear due to the increase in profile.

As has been said you need to factor in the gearing difference and change sprockets to compensate for the larger radius and to be aware that a 3mm ride height difference on a racer is reckoned to be a major change let alone 9+.

I'm going back to a 190/50 or 180/55 next time,my bike changes direction quick enough for me as it is without a 60 profile jacking it up any more.

I thought these bikes didnt like the 190/50 profile?
I have a 190/55 on mine and it rides fine.
I was thinking of trying the 180/55 though but I keep reading the 190 is better for edge grip etc.
Currently selling these.

Some of the earlier 190/50's notably various Michelins but probably others as well were much wider than their designated size would indicate and could end up fouling the chain.

A 190/50 Michy Pilot Sport ( bloody awful tyre) was just brushing my chain but the Dunlop 190/55 I have on now is several mm narrower, and according to Dunlops press guy their tyres are now almost exactly the nominal size all through the range.

Another point to ponder about chain strike is are the wheels tracking accurately?  Some of the marks on the s/arms are not even in the same street and a degree or two out of line could make a lot of difference in chain clearance.
