Ok so trial fitted a 190 60 17 pirelli to my rsvr gen1 ,so as griff said it will only fit with the wheel pulled quite far back and will need a longer chain question is how much will it change the handling as my wheel is normally towards the front ,also how will the tyre change the handling going from a 180 55 17

I’ve run 180/60 on them for a few years and love them on the rsv, I find it gives them a really plush ride, I ran ex bsb scrubs as I was getting them really cheap in sc02 and it’s the only time I’ve been pulling wheelies cranked over out of corners, I’m running metzeler racetec’s now in that size and they’re still very good.

The wider tyre will make it a little slower to turn into corners. I doubt the slightly longer wheelbase will be noticeable unless you are riding at WSB levels - probably best not to on the road!

The tyre may be wider, but with the higher profile it will turn in a lot easier than 180/55 I put 190/60 and the turn is was a lot faster then the 190/50 i had before. |

Not really the case compared to a 180/55. The 190/60 is 10mm wider for only an extra 5mm of height compared to the 180/55, so minimal difference. Compared to a 190/50 deffo better turn in. But also factor in that a 190 carries a weight penalty so increased gyroscopics and unsprung weight, both of which have a negative effect on handling.

Tried all of the above on a race bike and I feel no actual difference as it all goes out the window. Not once would I think it felt a bit slow or what have you.
If you tried all back to back on an empty track you may appreciate it. I lengthened the chain so I had the options based on tyre availability at the time.

I think most tyre preference is in the head especially for a road rider on a 120 ish bhp bike but if it makes you ride more confidently then I guess it’s worth it. Food for thought but a 190/60 supercorsa weighs about 6.35kg and a 180/55 about 5.23kg. The weight difference is not far off the difference between standard Rsv wheels and oz forged wheels.

Decided to go for some 180 60 17s the wheel is that far back once the new chain is on theres little room for any adjustment once the chain stretches, oh the joy of trackdays lol just need a brake light switch for the front radial mastercylinder and alls good lol

Do not mess the tyre height ratio with the actual mm ;)
55 is not 55mm, but 55% from the tyre width, so 180/55 is 99mm height, while 190/60 is 114mm which makes 15mm difference! You will for sure feel those extra 15mm height at the back, while i doubt most of us can feel the diffence of the tyre weight. |

You’re right I completely forgot about aspect ratio. Not so sure on the weight though. I can feel the difference between forged and cast wheels which is roughly the same weight difference.

For tyres or wheels ? Some brands list weights as in the one below ( a track/road tyre) . The wheel weights are on the Af1 forum. I think it was Micah of Af1 that weighed them all ( cast, forged, magnesium )

Yes, but i am not sure how accurate your source is(not that i have one that i am sure they have the correct numbers). It is interesting for me too to know the tyre weights, but i googled the EAN number from your screenshot and i let me to bg.mynetmoto.com There the numbers look reasonable at first glance, but not when you try to compare the supercorsas Here they state 5.8kg for 180/55 SP V3 Supercorsa https://bg.mynetmoto.com/shop.cfm/mnm000010653/pirelli-180-55-zr17-(73w)-diablo-supercorsa-sp-v3.html 5.81kg for 190/55 SP V3 https://bg.mynetmoto.com/shop.cfm/mnm000010654/pirelli-190-55-zr17-(75w)-diablo-supercorsa-sp-v3.html and 5.8 for 190/50 https://bg.mynetmoto.com/shop.cfm/mnm000010655/pirelli-190-50-zr17-(73w)-diablo-supercorsa-sp-v3.html which does not see to be right. Also if you check 180/60 SP V3 it is 6.43kg!!!! https://bg.mynetmoto.com/shop.cfm/mnm000010982/pirelli-180-60-zr17-(75w)-diablo-supercorsa-sp-v3.html |

Pirelli and I presume others can list different tyre weights for what appears to be the same tyre on paper but actually isn’t. You can get 3 weights for a Supercorsa. As in slick, inter and wets. With the wet version being the heaviest. Many don’t list a 190/60 in the range either which was the original comparison so you have to compare between brands.
If we try like for like then Pirelli list a supercorsa (not a wet etc) 180/55 at 5.8 and a 190/55 at 6.2 or a 180//60 at 6.5. If they did a 190/60 you could guess at 6.5 ish. So over half a kg weight difference. If you compare the Pirelli 180/60 against the Michelin it’s over 1kg difference. |

Well for people that may not know Micah , he's one of the best engineers in the business. Him and twi others made a Rotax twin do over 200 mph ,Team Punisher. And Spoonz is right about the height difference,I use a 200 in mine , 2005 Factory and i would not go back to a 190 but mine is a gen 2 and can take . Depends what you want to o with the bike ,with my Maxton shock it turns quick , probably too much for people.and all the people that say the 180 is better,i say it is personal choice,on the Aprilia trackday i went under them 180s . But the bike was much higher as was my R1 after fitting 200 tyres . I would use 200s all day long , and I was told it would not handle ,but not a problem.I believe the bike tipping in quick is down to suspension setup than the tyre size . If you leave the suspension alone and don't adjust it for the tyre then maybe. I had the R1 set up at MCT and it has all Ohlins suspension, when Darren set it up ,he asked me what tyre size I will using ,200 slicks 60 threaded 55 or 60. Anyway it had 190 s in it ,when I brought it back I took it for a ride with the 190s and I had to pull it into corners ,phoned Darren at MCT and he said phone after you put the 200 s in ,I did and it turned so quickly it took me by surprise, that's why i say it is down to geometry and setup of the suspension,Also there was a lad on here who was using 200 slicks and had no problems.i will be using 200/60 SC2 in about a month in Spain ,I hope I can get my feet on the ground £👍
