on the subject of trackdays what is the general opinion of a fast time for a lap of Donny for a trackday rider. I dont want to see any Tom Sykes comments!

You won't get a lap time!! Most of the organisers don't like transponders etc

There are ways around that. Surely people have timed themselves with onboard timers or had their mate stood with a stopwatch? Im just keen to compare to see how slow I am. Never had a comparison before.

The rsv has a lap timer, just a matter of making sure you work it properly (I never can!!) despite my early posts which were only for a joke just take it easy, don't worry about times or been slow or fast just enjoy it and get used to it. It is entirely different to the road!

I know. I did quite a lot of days around Donington on my 07 zx6r. I had a lap timer on the dash and was curious to see if anyone had their own time to compare.

I've sold my track bike now but it was a cbr 400 so my lap time was measured on a calendar rather than a stop watch!!!

Like Scott says it isn't a race and there are no prizes, just upset punters if someone gets outside their envelope and causes a red flag.

I have the slight advantage of having had 61 years to appreciate I'm not going to have MotoGp riders getting anxious about their jobs, also I don't confuse being passed as a threat to my virility.

Still p*sses me off though so you'd better make it stick or watch out on the next corner Big smile

One other item you need is petrol, a lot more than you need for road use, my RSVR fuel light comes on at around 55 - 60 miles at a track day, 120ish on the road.

Another tip is if you do trailer or van your bike to the circuit just put enough fuel in to do each session, you will notice a massive difference to having a full tank. I also recommend reading twist of the wrist 2 by keith code and as has already been said ask for some free instruction right

As well as tyre pressures, goes without saying that tyres should be as close to new as possible, squared off tyres won't be much fun.
A good base setting on the suspension will also give a lot more confidence, a good start would be just setting the sag for your weight and I'm not sure about the gen 1 but the gen 2 manual gives both road and track setting recommendations, it's easier to set up a bike that is too soft than one that is too hard, so if unsure go with road settings or soft track settings, money spent on suspension setup is definitely not wasted.

I'm interested in the Gold ACU sticker on Helmets.

The latest Arais I've seen do not have a gold sticker any more. They have a standard number which is an EU or worldwide standard.......

Whats the deal there?

Some helmets are actually sent out without the gold sticker although they are certified, dealers usually have spare ACU stickers for such cases.

I would also suggest chain lube and  remember to check state of brake pads before as they will get plenty of use. Also take petrol I am amazed how much i get through in a day.
I just started doing trackdays this year and I'm 58. They are totally addictive just moved up from novice to intermediate.
