Anyone on here live in Wales? The general speed limit for built up areas in Wales is dropping from 30 to 20mph as the default from 17th Sept. This seems like another ludicrous attack on the motorist, in a similar vein to the expanded ULEZ zone. Even the emergency services have acknowledged that this will impact on response times for non-high-speed-trained drivers. Madness. |

It's certainly going to be interesting that's for sure. Once again the tail is wagging the dog with a woke minority deciding things for the silent majority. They ran a pilot scheme in Buckley just down the coast from me and most absolutely hated it,so much so that the Deputy minister in charge even acknowledged it's failure and apologized for it but it's still happening. So,how is it happening you ask? Well,'s driven ![]() It's been rolled out with " cross party support" say's the Minister for Climate Change ! Her deputy minister is actually the poster boy for the scheme, another power play by the ruling Welsh Labour Politburo with support from the power hungry Plaid Nationalists who're prostituting themselves for a sniff of power just like the extinct Lib Dems of bygone years. Apart from the claimed climate benefits? the expressed main hope is that it will save many lives in Wales which is a laudable enough ambition. And when you look at the state of the Welsh NHS which makes the English look like paragons of efficiency you see it's a case of 'any port in a storm' Can't see it myself though as they claim most people who die in 30mph RTA's would just end up injured in hospital should the same accident occur @ 20mph . Seems a good way to actually stress hospitals more to me but I'm not a politician fortunately. My local council is keeping is keeping quiet on the subject and probably seeing which way the wind blows but they have applied to re grade up some local roads. It'll be interesting when the weekend MotoGp wannabees turn up on their race reps and realise they'll be stuck in first for the duration. Still petrol companies will see an upturn in profits I suppose. I also expect to see lots more speed camera's in the near future as I bet they're banking on making up the National budget shortfall from this golden opportunity,as in a recent survey the majority of people asked were undecided as to whether or not they'd obey the new law. |

Totally agree with you Ian. Comrade Dripford is Totally out of touch with reality. They pumped gawd knows how many £100k's into health board in glan clwyd ( betsi cadwalader i think) then find out over a million quid gone missing....plaid will get into bed with anyone to get power. 20mph limits outside schools and hospitals yes but other places ffs nope. I'll be in first on the bike and probably 2nd in car. The new tourist tax is pathetic too...wanting tourists to come here but then charging them for coming ffs. The ass-embly in Cardiff getting power hungry.

You are exactly right, and one of the benefits of very selective 20mph limits is that they do signal a hazard area ahead. If everywhere is 20 you lose that differentiation. |

Few years ago those fools that run wales or ruin wales bought a farm as a permanent site for the green man festival..the cost i believe or it was on welsh news at the time was £4m....for a festival site that only runs one weekend a year. There again dripford got to keep the eco warriors happy. If independence happens....time for me to get out of dodge then and move over the border.

Only if we let you! ![]() But seriously, after independence (It won't happen in our lifetimes, will it?) would be too late, you will need to qualify as resident in England long before just as EU citizens did following Brexit. |

I doubt independence will ever happen tbh,I think getting the ass embly ( nice one Cwp ![]() As far as the Welsh Politburo believe Wales stops at the Valley's,even Mid Wales feels a bit neglected I believe, and as for us in the north, well we have more in common with Manchester & Liverpool generally than Wales. Weird pockets of 'indian' reservations aside, and Anglesey of course which keeps itself totally isolated from the mainstream, lots of third eyes and webbed feet thereabouts ![]() It will be interesting to see what the happens in Sept as I'm pretty sure most people have totally tuned out whatever nonsense comes out of Cardiff and won't have a clue it's happening. I can see a mad rush to buy speed cameras to top up council budgets.

Aye Ian, as far as comrade Dripford and the rest of them go, wales stops at merthyr and anything north of that doesn't exist. Council tax already gone up loads this year. Like i mentioned spending £4m for a permanent site for green man festival and other wasted spending by Cardiff bay is ridiculous. No doubt the true extent of their spending will come to light when it's too late. Don't even go there with anglesey

Well, now it's happened I can give a few more thoughts on the subject. ![]() ![]() ![]() Total Fu*k up is what it is atm, some people adhering to 20 and some are just seeming to forget or ignore it. I've just driven to the shops at Rhyl and back and stuck to the new limits, luckily my Golf will engage cruise control @ 20 mph ( 2000 rpm in second) otherwise it's almost impossible to manage that speed without staring fulltime at the dash. Some drivers, mainly of BM's and Audis have provided me with a ringside seat to some really reckless overtakes so I don't hold much hope for Drakefords view that it'll keep down casualties for the Welsh NHS. I haven't been out on a bike since this became law but I can see mucho clutch slipping in towns and residential areas. Not only that but I have noticed at least one instance where there used to be a 30 opening into a 40 that is now 20 to 30 so some councils are looking to strangle traffic flow even further. As long as the nationals stay unaffected it shouldn't totally ruin the riding experience in Wales but it seems the climate lobby and anti transport factions in Cardiff are on a roll. And that's in spite of the growing opposition and mounting petitions to reverse this stupid idea, Comrade Dripford has just said NO! to any chance of repeal so those riders from England had better be warned before coming here to ride as I foresee a major crackdown in the future. As it stand atm if a static camera gets you over 20 that's an automatic fine and points but for a while you should just get a talking to and some 'education' if clocked by the Police,Go Safe or the Fire Brigade!!!!! I kid you not, that's straight from the horse's ass (mouth) Dripford, the Fire Brigade will be involved in enforcing speeding offences. That's in spite of being underfunded and overworked putting out fires and dealing with RTA's. Couldn't make it up ![]() Visitors be careful when crossing the border. |

Not particularly relevant to just wales but have read there is a brake camera on the way. These are positioned on the approach to a speed camera and will do you if your braking is excessive! i.e. you're braking to slow down for the speed camera. You couldn't make it up.
Nice to see the vigilantes have a good go at the ULEZ cameras and vans in London.

Dick-tator dripford will do as he wants, the twats power hungry now. Too much power in the ass embly. The deputy environment minister or whatever he's calling himself admitted in an interview that hopefully it will encourage more people ro walk or cycle to work....hidden agenda anyone. They slso want to increase tha amount of ministers in yhat bloody place, like there's not enough bell ends there already. I despise dripford and those in ass embly. 400,000 already signed petition against this stupid restriction but will he pay attention..nope. but if they want to put a soddin flower pot or something irrelevant outside the ass embly they'll have a mass debate over it.

Did you know that bicycles are not legally obliged to stick to speed limits, as they are not coverd by any speed legislations? I'd find a 20mph camera, find a photo of a car that Comrade Drakeford uses, get a t-shirt made up with the relevant registration plate on the back, and repeatedly ride through the camera. As far as I'm aware, there is absolutely nothing illegal about doing that, but someone will get a log of NIPs in the post!

I expect he get chauffeured everywhere in a limo. I notice in today's news? Plaid are now making noises about making it easier for councils to set local limits. Classic case of helping to drive the legislation then stabbing labour in the back. ![]() |

As I understand it, the 20mph limit actually increases pollution, so an emissions-based charge would seem rather counterintuitive. |

You know that, i know that but any money making scheme for dripford and his cronies is ok. According to the ass-embly experts 20mph doesn't increase pollution...yea right. I'll be in 2nd instead of 3rd when i start driving again in the diesel mondeo, 2nd gear more revs here we go lol. Dripford is anti car anyway

It's not just the 20mph now ![]() Coming out of Abergele on the main rd to Llandullas @ 20 it then transitions to a short length of 40,across a roundabout and onto what has always been national (60) for what used to be known as the Welsh M1 before the A55 Expressway was built. Guess what? There are now repeaters every few hundred metres for 50 Mph. How many man hours and how much money that stretch alone cost to supply and erect new signs in the last few days alone must be considerable. Pity they didn't spend it resurfacing our cart tracks instead. The way things are going we'll soon all be riding restricted step thru's rather than pizza delivery bikes on roads that'll make India's look plush. That's the ones of us that are left at liberty after running over brain dead f*kcwits who just lurch across the road into whatever traffic flow there is with their hoodies up and large over ears h/phones insulating them from any harm. And they're not even as bad as the entitled retards on bicycles to whom the new rules seem to have some how made them undisputed kings of the road immune to any controls or censure. I wish we could be more like the French sometimes, sod the politeness and stiff upper lip,we should get out on the streets and start showing the w anchors that make these rules that WE the electorate have had enough. There's supposed to be a go slow protest drive from Bangor to Wrexham on Saturday that I'll join if it happens. Enough is enough,it's about time the Brits grew a backbone and stood up for ourselves. Carbon zero nonsense needs killing off first ,then taking back control of our borders, followed by a massive housecleaning is needed. Our grandparents who sacrificed themselves for our freedom must be turning in their graves wondering WHY did they bother?

That's the problem ![]() Unfortunately that's a 60-70 Mph main trunk rd so any go slow there with private vehicles could likely end up with Police action. It did happen during the fuel strikes years ago when the farmers and tankers did it though,I guess it just depends on the turnout (if any) The main A55 passes right by me so if I see a slow procession passing I'll join the queue but given the general apathy I don't hold any great expectations. |
