I've had a bit of an accident with my fuel tank and now need to repaint it. While I'm at it I might as well sort the rough jobs on the tail and nose fairings. I'll be doing it in the Diablo black but I'm not sure if it's a Matt or satin black? And also is it easy enough to rattle can it or is it best left to the experts.
Finally, is it best to laquer over the graphics? Thanks. |

All depends on your experience and confidence. Rattle cans aren't cheap now days and it could take quite a few. My mate had his R1 track bike done in Milwaukee colours at Apex race paint for about £275 and that was every panel. It could be worth shopping round.

I think you're probably right. I might as well get it done properly rather than spending on cans then regretting it. Is the colour Matt black or satin though?

I think diablo black is epoxy primer finished with clear matte lacquer I vaguely recall an in depth discussion of this on AF1 sometime in the past. I can tell you it isn't satin black and its definitely not matt black either I left mine in the end before finding a perfect match |

I've finally reached a decision! It's being done by someone who knows what they're doing as what he's quoting it's not worth me doing it myself. I'm going with a gloss finish with lacquer. It makes sense as the fairing side panels are carbon fibre with a gloss lacquer. Decals are ordered and I'll be dropping the panels off tomorrow.
Thanks for the advice and I'll post pics when it's finished👍 |

do you guys use lacquer clear much? Most if shops here in US use an acrylic urethane clear with hardener...unless they are a custom restoration shop doing a special job..just wondering
