Hi all,

My RSV Gen 2 is fitted with Pirelli Dragon Supercorsas.
As I have just recently acquired the bike, I'm yet to find out what they're like.

What do you guys think???

Cheers,

The Dragon was a good tyre in it's day but a bit long in the tooth now. Great in the dry but average in the wet and rear doesn't last long.

I like Pirelli tyres so i have always used them on my last 3 bikes and currently use the Rosso and Rosso corsa which are superb. Tyres are so subjective though that there will be a huge range of opinions on which is best.

A mate of mine used to use them on his race bike (New Era/Manx GP/road racer), used to get a couple of races out of a set, except on the Manx... so good sticky tyres, if that's what you want, but they wear out quick!

They're virtually identical to Metz Rennsports, made in the same factory with the same materials by the same guys, but there's a different tread pattern. Had Rennsports on my ZX9R a few years ago, killed the rear in 800 miles, but they stuck like glue, except in the wet where they needed to be kept up to temp or it squirmed about like a greasy weasel... Wink

Currently shod with Bridgestone BT-016's on the RSV & Dunlop Sportsmarts on my ZX9R... Smile

Cheers all!!

I have a sneaky feeling that the previous owner enjoyed  track day or two.
The Dragons are shredded right up to the edge of the tyre, but not actully sqaured too badly yet.

I used to use Conti Sport attacks (i know, I know....) on the Gixxer because they were economical and lasted around 3k with road and spirited riding. The feel wasn't great but for the use, they suited me (afterall its only a 600).

However for the RSV and in the long run I want something more sticky for fast road and the occasional trackday or two.

Planning a Trip to the ring again soon, so would like something as a happy medium to deal with that.

Had the new BT016 Pro's this season gone, I only ride on the road.
Really impressed with the level of grip and confidence they gave me.
They've lasted all season, with tread left on the rear going into next year.
Plus I think I paid £190 for the pair and still loads on the front

Ditto, I ran these this season on my trackbike, they lasted 4 days at Snett before the rear started to fall apart on the edges, but I'm buying more as they are very good.

Yes, most of the ones I've seen have a hole in the middle and they seem to be be the ones most people have.  Wink

Lol. I hate tyres. Only averaging about 80ish miles before a visit to the tyre shop is needed.

I ended up getting a pair of Conti RaceAttacks, awesome bits of kit. Straight out the pitlane when new, straight onto the knee and pegs within 5 corners, no slides, no vagueness, basically perfect. Best road/track tyres I've ever ridden on, and as near as dammit as grippy as slicks.

Aren't those the new ones made by the same team that designed the Racetec's for Metz?

I read somewhere the whole design team went over to Conti and built a Racetec beater?

This might interest some

Anyone recommend a tyre for my RSV??

I have just recently purchased it and it has some Racetechs on it. The guy did a couple of track days on them and they are fine but I'm not a track racer. I a steady road rider but no knee down action. I need something that will inspire me with confidence.

Thanks for the responses in advance!!

If you're just trolling round on the roads in all weathers I'd think a sport touring type would be best PR3/4 or RoadSmart possibly?

If wanting more grip then SportSmarts or T30's,possibly T20's

Then there's Pirelli,Avon,Conti  there are no really bad tyres around these days, although I'm not a fan of Michelins others swear by them.

I had the Road Attack 2 (non evo) on my ZX7R and I was quite happy with them, would be nice if the 190-55 was a bit more aggrisvly profiled though but was still a really good tyre.

The front wore oddly and quickly though, front was down at the wear indicators while the rear was about half worn.
