Yesterday was the first "proper" test of the Big Bore compared to the last RSV I had and the change is massive, the amount of power now available throughout the midrange is awesome, as said before, 2nd gear wheelies are very very common and too easy lol

I also now enjoy a different noise, the Big Bore has made the engine note deeper, you can definitely tell, a gorgeous pair of 100mm CP pistons live under the tank Hehe!

I've also not noticed any "real"change in fuel economy either, there is a change yes, however, it's not as Big as you'd think, I did a mixture of dual carriage way A Road riding for about 100 miles and a lot of short point and shoot country B lane riding, I still got 120 miles to a tank on the long A road run at ahem speed Wink

I'am so happy with the bike, it's a real stunner and I'am very lucky, the front suspension was very low on the front, it was bloody quick to turn in though, I've taken some of that off and it's much better now

My riding was utterly sh*t on the south east ride out but I've been clocking up a few miles on my fav B roads now and the confidence is getting there again YaY Big smile

I've now learned that NO RSV should be without the following mods lol
Big Bore 1060 conversion
Hooked carbon airbox
57mm throttle bodies
Hahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

I'am off out now this afternoon coz the weather is gorgeous Hehe ttfn

Thought I'd update this first post with the updated pic lol...

Hahaha thought I was the only one to do that. The kids get a rub on the head and the ape a little tap hopefully they will all love me forever although the kids might not appreciate it when they are 15 but the mille is 11 and still likes it!

Hahahaa, cheers Scott, yeah I was on the bends the other day and had a spanish R in front of me, was wondering if it was you lol.

Well, NickyBoy took his first ever pillion passenger out the other day, it was my first time ever carrying a pillion and it was her first time riding on the back of a bike, what a way to start but on the back of a Big Bore 1060 RSV-R huh Hehehehe.....

It was a bit weird at first but got the hang of the extra weight fairly quickly and she also learned Very quickly that my 13 year old bike WASN'T 13 year old slow Hahahaha......

Did the Burnham bends and loved it, that rear seat is much comfier than I thought lol

WHAT WHAT WHAAAAAAAAAT?!?!?!?! You "EVEN" like the yellow ones?!?!?! In my *cough* totally unbiased view, a yellow 03 R is the best looking out there.

Haha, apologies there mountainman, it was actually a compliment, albeit backhanded... Hehe. I just have never liked any bikes in yellow APART FROM the Rsvr, which I think looks awesome
Even to the point where it would be a close call between a yellow one or a black one if I had to choose (and I love black bikes).... I hope I am forgiven now I've clarified things...

Hmm...I'll eye you with suspicion for a while.

I admit I didn't go out looking for a yellow one. Or an 03 for that matter but it came up very locally so had to have a look. Had never seen a yellow one in the flesh before and really wasn't prepared for how good it looks. Honestly, I went to be nosey, not to buy. Within 30 seconds there was no way I was leaving without it.

999r. 998r didn't have radial brakes iirc.

Similar for me MM, not in the flesh but I was scanning through eBay last year to see which Rsv's were about and saw a yellow 03 RSVR and it just looked mint, low mileage, pretty original and only about 3 grand...I was so tempted and I've fancied one ever since...my mate is serial buyer and seller of bikes and he is going through a modern classic phase just lately so I'm hoping he gets one that I can then have off him once he has put new tyres, chain and sprockets on it ....

Posted By: MountainMan
Date Posted: 28 Nov 2015 at 20:28
Good plan. Wish I had a mug...sorry, mate to do that for me. Similar low miles on mine and an owner who admitted he was selling as he couldn't ride it due to hip and knee surgery. I almost felt guilty about how hard I kicked him for it. Saved about a grand on asking price. I suppose he would have the last laugh though as the tyres were marked from 08 and the fork bottoms were cracked so the saving kinda vanished. Ah well. I wouldn't have left it anyway. There have been more good surprises than bad with it. Besides, that pearl yellow on a sunny day would put a smile on the face of the grumpiest of sods.

Posted By: Paddedcell100
Date Posted: 28 Nov 2015 at 21:06
Hehe, I do love my mate to bits but he is murder with his bikes, 24 hours is his record so far...I took him over to Carnells in milton Keynes on a Saturday to pick up a Fireblade and then he chopped it in for a Hayabusa(his second inside of a year)on the Sunday...classic.
I will get myself an RSVR to go alongside my Gen 2 Tuono one of these days, still got a few bits to do to the T first though, once it's stopped hoovering money out of my account then I can start looking for the Rsv....and let that start hoovering the cash...Hehe.

Very nice they are looking NB, how do you rate them compared to the Aprilia ohlins forks? I saw a set of Desmosedici ohlins forks a few months back on eBay and was lusting after those, £1500 they went for in the end though

Wow desmo gas forks, bet they would've been nice hehe, the forks I've got are really good, they are setup quite firm though, I need to back them off a bit, the bike turns in very quick, more so than the standard ohlins on the Gen1, however like most ohlins forks, these ones have crappier seals and the right side is showing signs of weeping but they're getting completely stripped over winter and having some brand new coatings applied to them which will be good Hehee!

They do look very trick on your bike, especially with the black fork legs, much better than the gold I think. I keep mulling over getting a set of ohlins for mine but it'd be a newer set of rsv4 ones if I went for an Aprilia set but the Desmosedici ones would be awesome... I'd just be sat in the garage looking at them instead of the tv
I think I'm going to just end up getting my Showa's revalved over the winter, im thinking a set of K-tech valves and springs would do the job nicely (and tide me over until the the next set of Desmo forks come up )

Posted By: NickyBoy1984

Yeah a lot of guys seem to go down the route of getting K-Tech internals fitted as this greatly improved the feel and adjustment, definitely something I'll be looking at too, I know where your coming from on those desmo forks and if I had them fitted to my bike, I'd just gawp at them constantly when not riding the bike Haha!

There are a lot of forks that slot straight into the Aprilia yokes and are the same length too so no modifications are needed, perfect example of this are the Ohlins FG 336 Moto 2 gas forks, they are 730mm long and 51mm through the top yoke and 56mm through the bottom yoke Hehe!

I see the 2016 ZX10R and GSXR1000 are getting gas forks. Showa I think. Matter of time before they become stock fit on Aprilia and Ducati I'd imagine. Then let the ebay hunt begin.

Yeah those bits that we'd once considered race bike only items are now becoming more and more standard fare aren't they, it was only a few years ago that the likes of titanium valves and con rods were the preserve of race/exotic bikes, now they're standard fitment on some bikes!

God, don't start me off on the Moto2 gas charged ohlins.... I would have to move into the garage permanently if I got some of them
The new Showa's on the Gsxr & Zx10r are very trick aren't they, they may even take over from Ohlins as the fork upgrade of choice for your average bike modder...it's certainly a great time for picking up trick parts, although not for the health of your bank balance

Upgrade of choice for the moment at least. I'd be very surprised if the next rejig of the RSV4RF and Pantiegale R don't have Öhlins version. Like most people, I've never had a go on a bike with gas forks. Curious if they make much difference. Worth it on looks alone though. Ha ha. Such a tart.

It would be nice if Ohlins do start bringing them out soon, they do just look the dogs with those canisters on the bottom and you are cock on MM, it's only bling because I'm sure it's not going to shave tenths off of my trip to Onyerbike on a Sunday afternoon but I do love a bit of suspension porn...

Haha, yehhhhhh.... There's a second hand set for about £4500 isn't there? I did have a little letch at them a while back, I would get lynched if the postie turned up with them ...
There was a nice looking set of WP superbike forks on there a couple of weeks ago as well, off of somebodys race bike, can't remember who, they were around £1500 I think, did look very smart.

Mmm,law of diminishing returns perhaps.

I've never seen the point ,unless you're racing in a class with restrictions why try to turn an apple into a pear?

I'd rather go and get a pear but that's just the way I look at it.

It was up for comment  Wink

Each to their own chap, I love modding my bike over the years and making it into a one off, I'd much rather do that that just keep buying the latest and greatest every couple of years and just have the same as everybody else, plus if you are a bit canny at playing the fleabay game you can pick up most of the bits at a pretty reasonable price and always flog them on again if you so wish..realistically I'm never going to buy a £4500 set of forks, unless I win the lotto, but it doesn't stop them going on the wishlist

Posted By: NickyBoy1984

Very true, each to their own, I would NEVER be able to use any of those expensive forks or brakes to their FULL potential.....

HOWEVER it wouldn't stop me from putting them on the bike if I had the chance lol

Tbh Nicky,I wonder if anyone on this forum could use them without a comprehensive downgrade internally.

I suspect they were designed for full on racing piloted by the aliens, and so probably totally unsuited to any sort of bimbleing road use.

nice to dream though   I suppose.

Fair do's to anyone who wants to fit £4500 worth of forks, perhaps ones priorities change as we get older.

Spoonz, you crack me up lol, yeah the bike normally resides inside the bubble but I've got a nice fancy dehumidifier/heater thingy in there now which does everything, gets rid of the moisture and heats the place so the bubble is redundant at the mo...
