Used to be 1100 until 1500 and then 1800 until 2300 with last orders at 2250 and drinking up time was until 2330. On a Sunday it was 1200 until 1400 and then 1800 until 2200. This was extended to 2230 around the same time afternoon closing was abolished.

Nothing like a smoke-filled old boozer for atmosphere. Made the birds look better and all. |

As someone who grew up in a pub I can remember the opening hours,
Mon-Thur, 10.30-2.30...5.30-10.30 Fri-Sat, 10.30-2.30...5.30-11.00 Sun, 12.00-2.00...7.00-10.30 This is from the 70's and we sold lager even back then. |

You're right of course. I think I remember lager appearing in the late 60's. If I also remember correctly the Scots used to like drinking it. Us real men stuck to beer.

70 shilling and 80 shilling was what the blokes drank. Mmmmm.... a pint of McEwans Export.
It was some of the girls who drank lager - with a dash of lime if they thought they were posh.
Licensing laws in Scotland let hotels serve longer so if you worked it right you could start at the pub, move on to hotels, then a club, then back to the pub at the docks for a lock in (as they were always open for the dockers and sailors) then back to the pub mid morning for breakfast!! Then do it all over again.
Happy days
Until I got married and it all seemed to change..... Why was that I wonder????
