I got Griff'd (and lost)

28 August 2014 - Posted by slackey

Spent all day at AP HQ last Wednesday (20 Aug 14) to have a bit of fettling done. First of all I have to say a huge, huge, huge thanks to Griff, Lewis and Al for the work they put in and the hospitality.

The day did not start off to well, I stopped for fuel on the A46. Brimmed the tank with Shell Nitro and the princely sum of £23 (the light had been on a couple of miles) and the bike promptly decided that the fuel would look far better on the forecourt floor. I had to wait 30 mins whilst it decided to spew its guts and leave about a tenders worth under the bike. With the overflows right next to exhaust it is fair to say I was sh*tting my pants that I was going to turn up at AP like an extra from The Towering Inferno but luckily I think I was going fast enough to keep the flames at bay lol

About 15 miles from AP my phone decided to die so I lost my SatNav. Would you believe the Customer Services bird in Asda knows where AP is? Apparently Griff is well known for his Jaffa Cake addiction and Asda regularly deliver to AP in bulk! So eventually (about 40 mins late) I make to the mother land and work commences.

Now bare in mind this is a 99 Mille, small valve and has not been cared for in the manner of some to say the least. That said it is a solid bike, with no real faults and looks tidy enough given the 15 years and 16k miles.

Welsh Garin Big Bore

23 May 2014 - Posted by Spoonz, in Member Blogs

A few weeks ago Welsh Garin had a Big Bore fitted at AP in Tamworth. Garin and myself went along to supply some of the labour and generally hang out and get in the way.

We arrived on a Tuesday evening from memory so we could start early next morning. We slept and ate in the AP workshop in Garins van so had all night to tinker if need be.

Wednesday morning started with a pre big bore dyno run which showed a very rich running motor and 110bhp (although they left the baffles in which accounts for some of the figures). After Griff returned with the bike we got on with a strip down (including getting a bollocking from Griff for making his workshop floor wet) and by lunchtime the motor was out.

The afternoon was spent stripping the motor with Griff. It was later that day that we discovered the inlet valve leaks on both heads so out they all came after a bit of spit and polish they were lapped into the seats and re checked for seal. Once we were happy that the leaks were sorted it all went back together and re shimmed as well as an oil... View Full Post >>

Nickyboy at the track

Hello Guys n Gals

I just wanted to post up a little blog of my day at Snetterton with Stuart, Andi, Heath and Cas.
It started off on Sunday night when I found myself parked up outside garage number 7 to be greeted by the guys and lots of little hot hatches going home after a days spanking round the track. I unloaded my gear and watched the guys get the bikes into the garage like a well rehearsed military exercise, Stu and Andi's bikes were looking sweet and ready for track action sitting on their paddock stands, Heaths bike was gonna be given to him the next morning. Not long after I arrived, another guy turned up, "The Ducati Man" lol, this was Cas, his bike was a yellow fila 749 but with a 999 heart, yummy! Obviously the first thing I noticed was the mega tasty racefit exhaust hanging out the back whilst it was on the trailer, I got caught by Stu trying to slip my fingers inside it though, I must remember to be more discreet next time lol. When he got the bike inside the garage, he tried... View Full Post >>

update

19 March 2014

Hi Guys/Ladies

Sorry it has been a while since the last blog, finally got my pipe whore arse into gear to get the next one up lol
The new Nitron Track shock is in and it is AWESOME !

It sits in the middle of their range just under the Race shock which is below their top of the range Race Pro Shock. Mine has the hydraulic preload adjuster fitted and it is well worth the extra pennies, makes fine tuning a doddle, even for a numpty like me but most of all, it just looks very trick. It took a while to fit though, that is only because I am a numpty and not as good as Griff's young spanner whizz lol, lifting the rear subframe out of the way really helps a lot, I un-bolted the bottom 2 bolts on the rear subframe and then the 2 little hex screws located directly underneath the rear of the fuel tank, that hold the front of the undertray to the rear frame spar. Doing this made getting the top bolt out a lot easier and helped when getting the old shock out and getting the new... View Full Post >>
