Hi All
Just another question on the above I know its an ongoing headache if you own an ape but i dont have a very strong left hand due to torn tendons when i was younger which means having to hold the clutch in constantly at traffic lights etc seriously limits my riding. New O-ring fitted and larger needle jet fitted as per Griffs advice but neutral still evades me. Is there anything more that i can try or do i just buy a Suzuki

I know it's not a fix but I have problems too and I find going down from 2nd to neutral only takes the slightest tap. If you go into 1st snick back upto 2nd and try again. After a while it just becomes normal.

I started out with nothing and I've still got most of it left

I find giving it a tap from 2nd with my heel is the most consistant. Might be worth a try. There is no absolute fix. Either your Aprilia likes neutral or doesn't. As a silver lining, you are less likely to hit neutral accidentally from 1st to 2nd when taking off from the lights.

I found that when I swapped for an aftermarket slave the lever became slightly easier to pull but neutral became a bastid to find. I swapped back and now I can find neutral in my bare feet. Make sure the clutch is bled properly. I fitted a bleed nipple to my lever housing. Pennys from HEL brake lines. Make bleeding so much easier.

As your coming to a stop with closed throttle in second when speed matches tick over slips into neutral without clutch with practice. Take it your already clutchless shifting.

Clutch to start in first then clutchless upshift mine when not fast riding, shut throttle split second. down shift more tricky but can be done.

Relieved to see I'm not the only one who practices clutchless downshifts
I started doing it on a continental tour riding my SV thou when it blew the clutch seal near Le Mans,I had it down to a fine art by the time we reached Perpignon. When you get it right it's absolutely seamless, not quite as easy on the Rotax but very satisfying all the same. I have to confess that although I upshift sans clutch on track I find it too hectic to downshift, especially when going down more than one gear at a time. |
