Hey guys

First post, just joined the Aprilia family with an 08 Tuono Factory.

Got a strange problem crop up, the button under handle bar that selects things and resets the trip meter suddenly over night stopped working.  Pressed for long time, wiggled switch etc etc.  It was practically 24 hrs from working to not working, no interference from me, didnt wash it, didnt even look at it funny.  It just stopped working!!!
Any clues ?  Similar experiences with happy outcomes appreciated.

More than likely just the switch, it's not a very robust part. You will need to test it with a meter to know for sure.

You make it sound so easy, it looks a sealed unit and the wire just disappears into a collection of other wires all shrouded together, I have not a clue where it goes or plugs in,  cant even find the part on fowlers website or any other site come to mention it.  A little more help or explanation would be fantastic thanks.

The left switch gear splits in 2 halves exposing the internals. You would need to look at the wiring diagram in terms of which colour wires are for that switch at the loom connector.  The switch cluster is only sold as a unit not individual parts.

Are we talking about the same button, I dont mean the mode switch on the handle bar cluster.  I'm talking about the button underneath that is separate to the cluster.  It has its own wire and seems independant to the cluster.  There is no sign of it on the official aprilia parts sheets.

If you have a separate switch then I can only think that has been added by someone as the oem switch is part of the left cluster. Number 10 in the pic

No , on my 09 reg tuono it’s all on the L/H cluster the Mode and mileage trip x 2 you can see , the reset button is at the front of the same cluster and to the right of H/light flasher it’s not easy to see when you first have our model, that’s if it different to others, just kill and start button on R/H cluster.

The button no.2 is the one I'm talking about, its on the front of the cluster, but not part of it.  It is a separate switch held on by one small screw with its own wire. It is used for the trip computer and multi function menu.

Ok I messaged the boys at af1. Late models 08 > 09 have a different switchgear. The switch will not appear in the online parts fiche because they probably pre date that. Apparently the switch is something like £155 Shocked

I did see on af1 a guy that drilled a small hole into the casing of his and sprayed switch cleaner in and it fixed it. Then sealed the hole with a bit of silicone.

Anyway thank you to everyone who contributed, I can report a happy ending to this story and will recount for future users and searchers how my problem was solved.

After reading the posts relating to the same thing I tried the forcing a straw of your favourite magic spray (mine being ACF50, having nothing else in the garage). Didnt work after a good drenching, left it a few hours, still no joy. Gave up on that idea and I was getting ready to try and trace it back to where it connects to the main loom. This is about 48 hours after the spraying, I switched on the ignition and started the bike to give the chain a wax and just out of sheer hope I pressed the button, well sh*t the bed it worked. All function was restored!!!!! Since bought some contact cleaner and very small drill bits to do it properly. But there you have it just I'm guessing road muck or something messing with the connection.
