The frame number will be something like ZD4RP01803S*****

The 3 denotes year of manufacture.

The engine will be either V990RP ******* or V990RP ******* NG or V990RR ******* NG

The first is the standard RSV engine, the second the standard engine with the close ratio gearbox and the last one is the Edwards engine with the close ratio gearbox.

The last two engines were only on 2003 bikes

All I'll say is if coming from an il4 give it time to 'gel' with it, they're not like a fireblade whereby you just jump on and go for it. But when they're setup right and suited to the rider these brutes take some matching out on the road for smiles per mile

IT took me months to "get it" but once you click with the Vtwin it is way more rewarding to ride than an IL4

Sweet bike twintorque! The only bike I will sell my 2001 Mille for... Last of the 2003 R's (has to be black tho lol, just personal pref Thumbs Up I do like yellow as well!). Either that or an RS250 to go with the RSV.

Question everything.

Sorry to hijack slightly, but it's relevant... Mine is confusing as hell, frame number tells me it was made in 2002.

It's an 03 type model, as per the graphics and Tuono-type back light / tail piece.

But it is on an 04 plate. Bloody mongrel! LOL

Just found it odd it was on 02 frame?!

Ah a man after my own heart! Many years ago now, I used to build custom, chop, streetfighter and trike frames for a business in Northampton. Lovingly tigged together... We put an Rg 500 motor in a Kx 500 crosser. It was an old bike and it needed new magnesium casings which were phenominaly expensive. We put on upside down forks and sticky rubber and it was barking mad!! The frame was braced and new wider cradle welded in place of the old down tubes. I have some pics somewhere but no scanner I'm afraid. It had hand built expansion pipes and was road registered. Sounded awesome hitting full song down the high street! Happy days ! Disapprove

the 10th digit of the frame number denotes the year of manufacture.

1 = 2001
2 = 2002
3 = 2003

hope this helps lads!!
