    Posted: 15 Dec 2009 at 10:42

Since I provide Eproms I would like to help fitting them.

Here is a how to.

If you do it like in the movie there is a big change the Eprom will die of statics.

Look at the pictures and it explains itself.

Here we have the ECU.

Unscrew the 4 screws and lift up the lid

This is what it looks like inside.

This example is an Aprilia aftermarket RSV Titanium Eprom which comes with a descramble foot.

You have to take the out as well!!!

As you can see there is a notch on the white foot and on the Eprom.

They must match!!

By taking a piece of plastic and toughing the central heating first you lower the change of static electricity ruining the Eprom.

Lift one side up just a bit.

Then the other side.

Repeat this until the Eprom will come loose.

Now take your new Eprom and put it on the white Eprom foot.

Watch the notch !!

Put in one side only.

The other side will look like this.

Now push with your thumb on the side of the Eprom and push it to the side so all pins line up.

Or use the plastic tool to push each pin in while applying little pressure on top of the Eprom.

Now that's done screw the lit back together.

Adjust the trim pots to 12 o clock.

Put the connectors back in and put on the contact to hear if the fuel pump runs.

If not there is a problem.

Here are examples of a descramble board.

Mine comes without is since my software is not scrambled.

Hope this helps.

DrRossi

I followed the directions here and my bike won't start.  I was installing a factory chip would that change anything? The Diagnostics code reads -1   Do you have any suggestions?

Thanks

Are you sure that the chip you have is a working chip, you wouldn't beleive how many duff chips are sold on to unsuspecting people?

Is this a genuine Aprilia Factory chip or one of those Ebay specials, take a piccie of the chip and post it up so we can see what you have?

The -1 is more than likely being thrown up cause the ECU is receiving incorrect/scrambled signals due to the incompatibility factor, put the old chip back in for now and make sure all's well.

My bike shows Err and -1 on the right LCD display if I turn the ignition on without disabling the immobiliser, this is due to the immobiliser cutting the ignition feed to the ECU.

I replaced the race chip and the bike runs great.    This pic is the chip I can't get to work.  I was told by previous owner that this is the original factory chip.    Thanks again for the help.

I have a feeling that the 549 chip is for a US Spec 2003 Tuono , it could also be faulty as they are suscepatable to static electricity , improper handling can blow them.

I have seen 165 miles to completely empty and regularly get 135 miles until the light comes on, on the track 80 - 100 miles before the light.

If your getting 120 to a tank I think you'll find thats as good as it gets I don't think putting the dr rossi chip in will really change it.

Yeah I used to get 110 - 115 miles to reserve on my '01 Mille, and about 20 miles after that before I bottled it and filled up.

Is your odometer reading right Kiwi? Or maybe I'm just a wuss?

£50 from Ed at Forza, see here:
http://www.forzaapriliaracing.co.uk/custom_aprilia_eproms.html

He has different versions for different levels of mods to your bike. I've got one of his FR200 chips for my 2001 Mille with open airbox and modded collector and the combination transforms the bikes fueling. Definitely worth getting.
