HID ballast threw wobbly, as did the spare I had, so decided to revert back to H7s.
Installed some Philips X-tremeVision 130%s and soldered the diode between the high/low beam relays.

People say I don't know Jack Sh1t; but I do, he lives next door.

I have a feeling the ballasts are the weak point with Hid aftermarket units

I think mine might flicker a bit sometimes, although it's been quite a few years since I've used the lights to see if it got any worse.

They are worth it for the extra light output though,no point in using the halogen main beams as they just added a couple of faint orange puddles around the lit area

I too , well until just recently, was running an H.I.D dipped beam on my Tuono, although it always passed the M.O.T each time I felt it may have been a concern to oncoming drivers so I finally took the plunge with a little project I've been wanting to carry out for a while now. Have been keeping an eye out, like many others, for a decent headlight unit for the gen 1 Tuono, finally came across one, ableit with a highly crazed lens for a not too extortionate price and set about baking it in the oven whilst my good wife was at work one day, after a lot of reheating and tugging and prying carefully I got the light apart, all four sections and set about modifying the reflector unit to accommodate a projector light unit. Several hours later and happy with the fit I keyed and sprayed the dipped beam reflector and projector light shroud a satin black and bolted/bonded the whole lot in place. Everything refitted and headlight adjusted to legal requirments and bike taken for an M.O.T, flew through again, I must say that I now have a really focussed beam, still using an H.I.D but I'm no longer worried about blinding oncoming vehicles or dazzling any of the others when out group riding.

I would think that with the advent of modern cars using hi power LED lighting any low powered aftermarket HID lamp would be quite lost in the usual retina burn resulting from any nightime journey

I know what you mean, it's bad enough when you're in a car, try to avoid riding at night if I can, but modern lights do seem so bright, good for the owner/driver but horrible for the receipient

pleased you got it sorted Mark it was a bit on the bright side when riding with you. I took the HID kit out of my cab a few weeks ago because it was dazzling other drivers but passed the mot. I only really drive at night whilst working and modern cars are terrible for blinding me even on dip beam. Although not as bright now I can still well enough and I know I'm not going to cause an accident.
I started out with nothing and I've still got most of it left

I'm liking the social conscience we have on here Wink

Personally I always took the selfish view that if the beam pattern passed the Mot test and I could see where I was going then in common with every other driver on the road that was ok.

Lets face it probably 75% of drivers don't even know they have a dip beam Angry
