Hi all
This has come up for sale and its near me. I've been looking for a decent Tuono (or possibly 1st gen RSV) for some time now. So whats the deal with 'Collectors' no. 139 of 200. It looks very similar spec to a Racing. Does anyone have more info on these please? Trying to work out what I would value it at Thanks in advance, Wilko

They are rare, don't come up too often, I'm sure someone here will tell you the exact differences between one of these and a 2003-2005 factory tuono. Different carbon and gold frame and Swing arm not on the factory, as regards oz wheels and ohlins suspension I'd imagine they are the same as on the factory.

Limited edition released prior to the Racing. If you look on AF1 site under Gen 1 Tuono forum there's a register data base of this model by top yoke number.
Think there were only 200 made. There's been one of these on fleabag for months, don't know why it's not sold. |

Thanks all so far. Yeah I saw that one Steve, a trader, 20000 miles and priced at 3799. The one I linked to is 4000 or best offer, 10500 miles. I'm thinking if the 3799 trader one hasn't sold, the new one listed at 4000 is probably over-priced?

Well, they are rare, and the spec is lovely, but to me they look a bit bland compared with the Racing or the Factory.
An extra £200 for a bike with half the mileage is the way I'd go; that stubby with the small bore link pipe can't do performance any favours.

I know what you mean, but I prefer a more stealthy look so it suits my tastes (apart from the exhaust!). I've messaged him with a load of questions, just waiting on a reply
It was listed on the AF1 RSV'R Tuono Register (no 139) and looks like it was sold to him on eBay about 2 years ago |

The 2002 R was the first Tuono ever made, 200 worldwide. I think they cost about £11,000 back in 2002, as people have already mentioned, carbon and carbon/kevlar panels, black plastic seats and a spare set of "Kevlar" seats (there was also a black suede seat as an optional extra but I've never seen one in the flesh), matt black paintwork, black subframe/footrest hangers/front fairing frame, bronze anodized OZ wheels, Ohlins forks/shock/steering damper and something the Racing/Factory didn't get, a Stainless Steel oil tank. The same as a Racing/Factory but without the shell-suit paint job
They look good in the flesh.

Not quite the same as a racing as it has axial forks and calipers where the racing is radial.

True indeed, and did the Racing get the 2003 close ratio gearbox, as it won't have that either?

Yes different forks. "There are only two gear sets offered for V60 Rotax engines in aprilias. 98-02 Mille and 02-03 standard Tuono had the same early, wide ratio gear set. 03 Mille and all 04 and on RSVR, 03 Tuono Racing, and all 04-05 Tuono all had the NG (new gear) close ratio gear set. The only common ratio to both is fourth gear. First thru third are taller, fifth and sixth are shorter." I'm guessing the 2002 "R" had the wide ratio box.

FTM, never knew that! I have an '05 Tuono (06 reg) and the previous owner went 15/42...wondering now if that's overkill. How much of a difference are the ratios?

Had a reply now and he's posted a few extra pictures on eBay of a few scrapes. Looks like it's toppled over and exhaust damaged the swing arm a bit, like a lot of RSVs. Also a scrape on a fork leg but not the stanchion. Only 4 services in the book, would probably have to budget for valve clearances and fork service

There are 3 "R's" for sale on www.mobile.de in Germany. Priced at € 7,000 € 7,500 and € 10,000 respectively. It makes £4,000 look cheap.

That's why a lot of the best bikes are going to Europe because the euro is strong against the £. |
