Hello I have just signed up to your forum.  I live in Staffs UK and have finally purchased an RST Futura, its a 2002 one owner bike (honestly) with 40k miles and in remarkable condition, flame red with panniers. Collected from Scotland last weekend and ridden over 400 miles home in a single hit - only 3 fuel stops for me and the bike !!  I sense theres not a great Futura presence on this forum but wanted to say hello anyway.....  This bike is pretty well out of my Jap bike comfort zone but its what I wanted , bizarrely........  Been reading up on everything I can prior to ownership and looking forward to living with the bike. Its part of a small collection so will be cossetted more than ridden sorry ! 😄

Welcome aboard 👍there’s not a big futura base here as Aprilia’s were left field to start with and the futura is even rarer, the basics of the bike are still rsv/tuono etc so any trouble shooting can be sorted and Griff at ap work shops is only in Tamworth.

welcome along

yours and the caponord model were rare at the time and rarer now as Hemi said

with only 40k you shouldn’t be having any major issues like a rear hub king bearing failure
usual  stuff check shock linkage can’t remember if they are a direct mount or not
i’d do the starter leads ,battery and solenoid upgrade if not done to ensure trouble free starting

good luck and enjoy

Thanks both, the original owner has already done the bigger electric cables and clutch slave . The motor doesnt spin and fire quite as quickly as I would like, I may put a new bigger cap battery on it as a matter of course and it will always be on optimate when resting. Forgot to say how much I enjoyed riding the bike home despite virtually all boring motorway.... it was a leap if faith as I had never even test ridden one and I am v tall but the bike feels just great. They are quite tall anyway with a wider than usual (comfortable) seat. Been reading up v carefully on oil change procedure and watched ap youtube channel also ref dogbone maintenance. Its all very different from a Honda 😀... think thats part of the appeal.... and to think I found the bike a bit ugly when it was launched way back..... now I think its quite " handsome " 😁  thanks again  any Futura owners please do say hello if you want. Cheers

Welcome to Aprilia ownership! I took a similar leap of faith, when I bought my RSV in 2020 in the middle of covid restrictions. I'd always liked them, but never ridden one. I bought mine sight unseen - the first time I saw it was when it arrived at my house!

There is a great community here, so even though there may not be many Futura owners, there is plenty of Aprilia knowledge and experience.

Thanks Bladerunner, any details of your bike ? Mileage, colour, mods etc ?  Mine is in the exquisite flame red, it looks sensational and has the correct panniers. The thing which struck me most was just how well the bike rides at 20 years old and 40k mileage. That has to be down to original owner, who was pretty meticulous in his home maintenance and of course the build quality....  I ride and have owned a Lot of bikes and this doesnt feel anything like its age. I am very impressed and plan to keep it long term

Mines an RSV rather than an RST, I'm afraid!
