Yes you can it’s just not as easy to adjust as the fast idle lever.

I use the fast idle lever compulsively every time I start the bike. You get a lot more movement from it than you do from the idle adjuster. In a lot less travel too. Plus on track I like the idle around 2k to 2.5k and its nice to have it just set and left. If you really don't want the fast idle lever on the left clip-on I guess you could remove it and just start on the throttle, though it would be a rough way to start it each time.

Do you just want it away from your left grip?

It was just a general question, I just dont like clutter but I see your point, so for track do you set your revs at 2 thousand on the idle adjuster ? What are benefits of this ?

Off subject I'm running 16 44 gearing what chain length do I need

Yeah I set idle on the high side to minimise engine braking a bit and make it a bit smoother on the off throttle transitions. Was advised to try it by kzmille on AF1, but since then I've also heard its a general recommendation for big twins on track.

Stock is 17/42 with a 108 link chain. To go to 16/44 you want a 110 chain. Or what I did was change just the front to get 15/42 which is similar ratio but fits fine with the 108 chain. When I get a new chain I'll stick with the 15 front I think and get probably 44 or 45 rear on a 110 chain. 15/42 is still long for the UK and I only hit top of 6th at catalunya which is a very long straight. Cadwell n and donny I never touch 6th.

You don't really want the axle any further forward than stock as it will get more difficult fitting a tall tyre in there. 180/60 is popular for these bikes and is fairly tall.
