hi having trouble starting 03 Rsvr
Brought last August started fine not an issue, sat over winter on a trickle charger in garage last time went to ride had trouble starting turned over fine but wouldn’t fire, held throttle open as had read but smelt of petrol, left as didn’t want to keep turning over loads, came back after 3 times and fires ok rode no problems, sun out today did the same, but wouldn’t start, now whenhit starter can hear noise in underseat area but not turning over at all, battery now showing on trickle charger as good, tried to star nothing , plug back into charger and battery shows as needs charging, is it just a dead battery or other issue, not that mechanical minded, but so annoying just want to get fixed so when sun out I’m out rather than sat with the hump, no one local who can trust to look at bikes where I am ...... sat in garage gutted while wife sits watching Eurovision .....HELP!!

I would start with a new uprated battery, ytx14 at least and uprated 150amp starter solenoid.

What sort of noise are you hearing, a constant clicking? |

Have you had a meter across the battery terminals? Check it static and then also when you press the starter. |

No I haven’t and also don’t have a meter, think could be the battery as shows full on optimate, but once disconnect and go to start and not even turning over, plug back in and says it’s low and charges. Would anyone recommend a usual yuasa or go lith? Only thing is will then need a new charger, also is it worth the solenoid upgrade?

I had a similar issue with my Gen 2 after replacing the starter solenoid. The whirring is the fuel pump. Try crossing the solenoid, pull the 2 little rubber covers off the 2 X 10mm nuts and use a screw driver to cross the two i.e. place across touching the 2 two poles. If the.bike starts the issue is probably the solenoid. Really easy to replace, one connector and two nuts.otherwise try the fuse, 15 amp on a Gen 2 to the right of the front fairing, not sure of positions on Gen 1.
