Hi all I'm considering getting a Mille as I've realised that a V twin is all I'll ever want and I've never quite got over letting my SP2 go 10 years ago... I'm looking at a red 2001 bike, reg Y474RDG. It's at a dealer up north but came from Cardiff. It has a black screen with RSVR.net stickers - anyone know it? I ask because it looks really clean and looked after with 21k miles and only 1 previous owner but has no service history. Cheers, Tim. https://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/YjUAAOSwSkxbOn1d/s-l1600.jpg

That's beautiful! The one I'm looking at is £3k with 21.5k miles. It's very clean and only 2 owners, one being the original dealer but the downside is that the history has been lost so it would be a punt. It looks like it has been cared for but I'm not sure if it's a wise thing to do, even with a 3 month warranty.

thats more like it for 3k,love them wheels in gold, may have to get mine done at some point!!
classic colour scheme too,a beauty.
the other seems high at 3k with no service book ect,
can you go view it or are you buying blind?

if its great condition and its meant to be,youll know once you see it.

i regretted selling my red one as soon as the new owner rode off on it,

but saying that,i never thought id get an R model in my price range,
but patience paid off and as said,i found my 02 rsvr for 2500 delivered, all service books/stamps,
spare keys, haynes manual, reciepts for work carried out like valve clearances ect
dyno sheets,pc3 and immaculate tbh.

plus 2 brand new tyres that had done zero mileage.

Big Un, it's miles away from me so it would be a blind purchase. I think I might just take a breath and not rush in, looks like there will be others if you know where to look. I love the red versions but the R's are the nuts, bring back great memories of watching WSB!

A wise move not to rush in. However like all 'old' bikes, it's worth traveling for the right one

s,id deffo advise against buying any bike blind mate, specialy one thats now 17yrs old.
these milles are superb IF theyve been looked after properly...like any bike.
they have their quirks, like checking/filling the oil ect that most il4 people tend to get wrong!

i viewed mine a fair distance away, then sorted a price inc delivery.
dont rush in mate, but the off season is the time to grab a bargain...3k for that 02 isnt a bargain imho.

What do you class as far away? I'll travel anywhere in the country for the right bike, it's a day out.

The red is nice, no doubt but 3k for a Mille is top dollar, especially out of season. Harry Larrup has a red Mille for sale at the moment, 14k miles for 1895. Over a grand of savings compared to the one at the dealers - thats a fair few upgrades/mods.

Still plenty of great Gen 1 bikes about for less than the 3k the dealer wants - possibly a few Gen 2 bikes as well. Its a buyers market at the moment. Good luck with the search Thumbs Up

How's this for an alternative? 2 1/2 hours left to run. I would imagine it will go for around 3300 this time of year.
I started out with nothing and I've still got most of it left

That was one of the bikes I've been watching but I'd set myself a strict maximum budget. There's a similar bike up in Sale but the owner didn't engage so I've cold feet over it. Thanks for the heads up. There's a lovely little TRX850 on ebay too but I can't help feeling that I'd always wish I'd got an RSV instead!

To be honest mate I let it go too cheap at £1800. It was a real pleasure working on it, had obviously been well looked after and the few niggles it had were easy to sort (when you know what you’re looking for).
As mentioned, it sold within an hour, and frankly I could have sold it 50 times over with the interest that evening alone. I think the market is getting a bit more discerning and sensible people are recognising what value they are if in decent nick. There’s two distinct categories of early Gen 1s, cherished and maintained or scruffy dogs.

Yeah I couldn't remember the name you went by on here Paul - despite Rick telling me before. Not that it made any odds - bike had sold before I posted the reply Smile

Tidy bike, good price - that's why it wasn't available for long.
