Hi Guys,

Can anyone advise me or point me in the right direction to learn hot to tell if my suspension is working right for me?

I have the Ohlins front set up with uprated springs and 7.5w oil, set up on the fourth ring down (which are about to go to K-tech for a service as i have a leaking front seal)

Iv heard about the zip tie to see how far im going down, can anyone tell me what this does and what i can tell from it and what i can do with that information.

Also i have a Sachs rear shock which iv been fine with.

It's hard to give specific advice as suspension is personal to a very large degree. Without any form of telemetry you don't know what it's doing at any given time on any given road just seat of the pants feeling. Best to set the basics (sag etc) and experiment from there until it feels as best it can over a ride. 
The cable tie will tell you how much total fork travel you have used but that's all. Whilst that can be useful to a point, especially if your not using much travel. But it can give you a bum steer as well. For example, your regular ride shows you used all of your travel based on the cable tie. That's cool but what if you used that travel only on 1 bumpy road and the other 9 you were only using 1/3rd ?

A. You wouldn't know that unless you stop on every road and look and reset the tie

B. Do you want the suspension to be set based on the 1 bumpy road or the other 9. Same goes for compression and rebound etc. Everything is a compromise on the road and every area and rider is different

My advise is just to set the sags (which will also tell you if the spring rate is ballpark). Set the comp and rebound to stock, then ride it lots and adjust lots. See what feels better and what feels worse. Work on just rebound on one ride and compression on the next etc. If you adjust both and it's better or worse you don't know which made it better etc.
 
But just remember that what feels crap on one road might feel great on the next so always adjust based on riding varied roads and accept however good your settings are, there will always be roads it's not so happy on.  Hence why active suspension is creeping in now, adjustment on the fly.

I’m sure I’ve read some where about setting the sag, can anyone direct me to this as I need to start on Tuesday at my track day at brands now I’ve had the rear shock serviced and new spring for my weight .

There is no one answer on sags. Some just set a static sag of about 10mm and leave it at that and others including me prefer rider sag.

That is you in gear on the bike although you ideally need a helper so you can lift up your feet and get in a natural riding position. About 25-30mm rear sag and 35-40 up front as a rough guide.
