Hi dudes,
Been awhile since Iāve been here would appreciate If anyone
Can anyone help Iāve got a pair of aprilia rsv r oz wheels which are blue and would like to have them the same colour as the racing Tuono are they anodised or gloss white is it possible to powder coat them as Iāve read the heat my compromise the magnesium ? If so how where the original racing Tuono wheels coloured white? Cheers Kevš |

Firstly standard OZ wheels aren't magnesium, they're forged aluminium as opposed to cast, secondly they were more likely to be anodized blue but some time period did have them painted I believe Tuono Racing? not sure but would guess painted white. There are a few on here so I expect one of them would be along shortly with first hand knowledge. I personally doubt the heat involved in powder coating would adversely affect the wheel although the deposit build up and increased weight over anodizing would seem to defeat the purpose a bit.

Anodized are dull and you can see the metal texture underneath, painted have more of a smooth, shiny texture as the paint covers the surface rather than etching in a few microns. I have Gen1 Oz which were anodized and then someone over painted them the same colour. Not totally successful as the paint doesn't stick very well to the anodizing although they do look better when cleaned

Spoke to a powder Coating company and they said All All mag rims can be troublesome to powder coat. If they are mag alloy not so much. However to be on the safe side it is best to wet paint them. This we can do but does come at a higher cost and not so reliable.mag rims can be troublesome to powder coat. If they are mag alloy not so much. Read Ian's post again. Your wheels won't be magnesium, the oZ wheels were aluminium and either painted or anodized depending upon model year. |

Speak to the guys at Central Wheel Components.
I looked at getting a set of forged Factory wheels powdercoated and these guys really knew their stuff, unlike a lot of other places I contacted. If forged wheels are powdercoated at too high a temperature then it can weaken the structure of the wheel, so a proper powdercoating shop will do them at a lower temperature and , as I said, I enquired with a good few ,supposedly, professional places about this and they didn't have a clue, Central Wheel on the other hand knew exactly what i was on about and set my mind at rest good and proper that they would do a top job.

No worries buddy, they're very good , I've never heard anybody have a bad word to say about them and their prices are very good as well, I'm going to get my zx9r swingarm & subframe powder coated by them when I can get my arse into gear and get it stripped ... I don't think you'll go far wrong by using them š

ISTR the Nera used Mag wheels? Orange coloured ones? Mind you, they are rarer than hen's teeth. Had forged ally Oz's done at Central Wheels 5 years ago. 10/10 Top notch job. Absolutely perfect. Went with Cerillium Gold (Some call it Ducati gold...closest in colour to the gold wheels the Ducs had on the red 916's) Finish on my wheels is still as good as the day they were fitted |
