can any one tell me if gen 2 air box mod does away with the plastic cover completely leaving throttle bodies exposed,thanks,gents

Yes there is two types one uses a rubber seal against the underside of the tank ( evo style ) one uses a carbon plate with a filter over the throttle bodies ( renegade/hooked/jollygiant) .
I started out with nothing and I've still got most of it left

ok thanks for that I have the one with rubber seal meaning I have no cover for throttle bodies.Having found a small piece of gravel and another small piece of unknown hard material in the air box I don’t think I want throttle bodies exposed,thanks for your help

Hi Nick,  I reckon that has come from the airfiter housing,  if it is the kit with a single strip of aluminium holding down the airfiter.  It's no way sufficient when you think of forced air coming through the snorkel at high speed. I would do what you say and put the top on or build some brackets to hold the airfiter housing down properly.

Hi dog , thanks for your input think I will leave it with the box on rather than messing about with it.
