So it essentially reads to me that the amount of water is based on the fuel quantity as it has a natural saturation point per quantity of fuel. Less fuel = less water before saturation point is reached.

So I suppose if parking up for a long time either empty the tank or fill it up, a half full tank will reach saturation faster as it needs less water to do so and has more space for condensation. I'm going to confuse myself here now but going with the 0.5% of water needed for seperation to occur (at 15c),
Full tank 18l or 18000ml
0.5% is 90ml

and that's for e10, most unleaded here claim to have 5% ethanol, I'm assuming e10 is 10%.

Am I completely wrong with my thinking or what

so 90ml of water in an 18l tank of e10 at 15c will cause the seperation

That was an interesting read. I think emptying the tank would be the best solution but wonder about the fuel in the pump, pipes and injectors.

If you leave fuel in the tank, blocking the breather may help although may not be a good idea in other ways as the breather is there for good reason. Maybe agitating the contents of the tank periodically while being stored may help.

It read to me that plastic materials mainly absorb the moisture when in direct contact with fuel. So the less fuel in the tank, the less surface area is absorbing moisture. Condensation will contaminate the fuel but not the tank material.

10 people will probably give u 10 interpretations.

Mainly I guess, but nylon 66 will also absorb moisture from the atmosphere direct, albeit at a slower rate.

I modified a Triumph single side rear paddock stand to fit an MV F4 which involved a nylon sleeve on the stand. This was fine and in fact a loose working fit when first used. Within a few weeks it had to be hammered out of the hub and from then on would never go back in again. I had to turn about 1/2 mm off the dia to get back to the previous fit.

This was in a dry, warm basement a couple of feet away from the central heating boiler not left outside in the rain

People seem to be under the impression it's the Ethanol which make the tanks go all soft and stringy when in fact it's the water separated from the fuel that's the problem.  I suppose the problem has always been there historically, just in years gone by it rusted out the old steel tanks, the Ethanol now has just exaggerated the always present problem.

I used to aspire to one of those in my formative years, had to make do with an old D1 Bantam when I got my first bike at 13 and then worked my way out of bikes and into the scooter world.
