So I was away working at sea and I fell in love with an 2002 RSV1000 Mille. Pretty basic but I though f**k it I am going to get my old man to get it for me. Everything goes well I get an email off him saying you are now the proud own of an Beautiful Aprilia. I think to my self sweet and I am as proud as punch. an hour later I get a call via facebook messenger. Son I have some bad news..............
He then goes on to explain that whilst transporting the mille in the back of a box trailer I don't know the exact lashing set up but some how the side stand bent to a 90 degree angle and the bike went over, fortunately the screen was minimalistic and I just needed to order a couple of things. a new side stand, a new screen, a new mirror mount. No Problem. So I get home from sea and I go to look at the bike. the side stand has arrived. I ordered a part for a RSV Mille and received a side stand for an RSV Mille R now on initial inspection it would appear the side stand is more rigid than the original but it doesn't look like it fits into the gap that houses the side stand in the fairing. can anyone help me out? will it fit or do I need to cut and weld it. or order a new side stand....... again....

All I know is if you are replacing a Side stand you are better off using one off a fireblade, 04-05 I think or else an American spec Aprilia Side stand.

I intend to. but I need to sort something quick otherwise I am not gonna get chance to ride before I am away again and this would make me beyond sad :-( I have the mille R side stand as a temporary measure I just want to know if it will fit or if it is too long to fit into the designated gap in the fairing. if it is do you think maybe I could get one of my dads fabricators to cut it and re attach the foot plate?

The Mille and Mille R stands are the same. The US stands (Highly recommended as they make the bike FAR more stable) are longer and stronger and depending upon the model year may need the bellypan releiving slightly to accommodate it when it is raised as my 2001 model did.

So I believe this to be a newer model stand. So when you say relieving what do you mean?

Basically trimming it away with a dremmel (Or similar), however it depends what stand you got. I don't think the Gen1 stands varied much (If at all) other than between the UK and US versions. See photos below: |

At the end of the day, if it fits and works (Meaning it holds the bike stable at an acceptable angle) then use it (At least for now). If you can find a US version then that is definitely the one to go for. They do come up on ebay now and then but prepare for a hefty price tag as they always suffer the dreaded import duty and vat when people bring them over the pond.

That's very true, I found one on eBay 4 months ago, buy it now 48$, 52$ for shipping then had to part with £24 before the post office would deliver it was worth it though, couldn't believe the difference to the crapy UK one. |

If it wasn't for bad luck I'd have no luck at all
