Ok, further to my original post where it seemed my tuono ran rough after a wash. On Sunday I had the tank up and inspected the two vacuum hoses that go to a sensor on the airbox. One was split at the end, so I trimmed it ad refitted. I then took the bike for about a 100 mile ride and it was fantastic. I thought brilliant I've sorted the probkem.
I parked my bike up, didnt wash it and looked forward to our local bike night on Wednesday. So tonight I got the bike out of my garage and looked forward to a good blast. Imagine my disappointment to find that the rough running is back 😟. When I wind it on the engine is generally rougher, but especially between 3k to 7k revs, exactly where you need the grunt. And it us very vibey too. I'm trying to explain it as best I can. I know vtwins are not as smooth as jap fours, but I've had a few apes and all were much smoother than my tuono is now. I'm thinking I have an electrical problem somewhere, but I am honestly pulling my hair out and sadly getting ready to sell the bike because it is frustrating me so much. If anyone can offer any advice or suggestions of where r what to check I would be eternally grateful. Thanks in advance for any help you people offer me. |

Daft question but how do you check these without simply replacing?

You can't really check the coils but the lead and the cap can be a problem area. The cap screws into the lead and can start to pull away from the lead or develop a crack.
Is the tank venting ok, have you checked the pipes are clear, if it's a gen2 don't rule out pin holes in the internal tank piping or even the pump. If it's a venting issue hot days might be worse.

When the bike was at Aprilia performance about 3 weeks ago they replaced the high pressure fuel pipe for me. The checked both vent hoses were clear, however because someone has fitted an aftermarket race type cap to my tank, they were unable to remove it to check the valve inside. The little Allen screws that secure it to the tank were rounding off, so we thought best to leave. It's just strange how sometimes it is perfect, put the bike away, get it out another day and it runs like a bag of nails.
I will check the leads also. I did remove the rear plug lead which came off easily, however the front did not want to come off. I'm certain it would have broken if I tugged at it. Is there a certain way to get them off? |

Ok, so I finally sorted the problem....Replaced plug caps with some ftom Griff and she now runs like a dream 😊😊😊😊
Had a full service done recently at Doncaster Motorcycles including valve clearances. Please correct me if I'm wrong here, don't the plugs have to be removed in order to check valve clearances, I.E. cylinder heads off or something? And if not then surely on a FULL service they would have removed plugs for inspection and if neccessary replacement? This is so annoying as the bike an perfect before it went to them. When I called geddit them, they just said it can't be anything we've done it must be your power commander (seemed like a well rehearsed excuse to be honest, one which they've obviously used previously). Needless to say I have learned a lesson the hard way and for my next service I will be travelling down to Griff and the lads, despite the 150 mile round trip plus a day off work. It is worth it t get back your bike in tip top working order. |

Better later than never
I've heard of that excuse being used by another Aprilia main dealer as well My bike was fitted with a PC just before I bought it but this dealer said they couldn't work with it fitted so it had to go back to standard |

Why would people take a 10 year plus bike to the average stealer ? Most don't posses the skills and knowhow to service an rsv ? Having a 17 year old 'technichian' making mistakes on your bike. Lol Aprilia performance is the exception because the know their stuff times A 1000. |

I wonder if they did the valve clearances, especially considering some of the cam cover fasteners can be a pain to remove?

I know the dealer didn't do mine, when I mentioned it they said " Nah mate, don't need doing, only got 20,000 miles on the clock and the engine's nice and quiet"
Scary isn't it? Now that was a main dealer that's now servicing ( or not) V4's as well I feel sorry for anyone who uses them |

I've used these guys years and never had a problem in the past. They are not wet behind the ears young whipper snappers.
I'm sure it is something they didn't realise they had done and a mistake anyone could make. However recently I've had two front tyres fitted by them and both would go down after fast rides. I took the bike to another tyre dealer to have the rim inspected and it turns out Doncaster Motorcycles hadn't used any sealer when fitting my tyre which was causing it to not seal properly. Since it has been removed and fitted correctly it hasn't gone down. Needless to say I'm very dismayed with Doncaster motorcycles as they are only down the road from me :-( |
