Aprilia made their name in 125 race replica 2 strokes using the rotax 127 engine

This is mine (with its spares bike).

These bikes are greatly underestimated , the bike can cruise at 85mph , top speed into the naughty side of 100 mph, and comfortable enough to do 300 miles in a day. Aprilia made their name with the race replicas and the racing success in 2 stroke racing. They also had a great off road history.
Key to their sucess was the rotax engine which had electric start, and a exhaust power valve to change power characteristics as you rev the bike to 10,000 plus rpm. The whole unit with starter and carb weighs 34kg or so ! Compare that to a four joke engine and power of 34bhp depending on tune.

Single sided swing arm was the first on a production bike !

The italian market for bikes for young fashionable kids brought all the race developments to the customer, aprilia production grew from 200 a year in 1980 to 20000 a year by 1989.

It's finding one!! Bloke in Nottingham is breaking one but to buy all the parts he has for sale it'll be £3.5k!! Went to look at a tz250 that I heard about yesterday. 1987 model, Italian import, no provenance, could have been a gp bike for all we know. Tatty and bits missing. The guy didn't want to sell it though. Think if I'd have slapped 20k on a table he wouldnt even sell it!! Mega cool though and so tiny!!

This italian site (use translate) has great info on all these bikes. Hardly any made it to the uk until the Italians had thrashed them to death !

Love it Clap

I had a really tricked out RD125LC when I was 17. Sprayed in the Wrangler colours by Dream Machine. Full race fairing and race seat by MeadSpeed, rearsets, Micron, ledar induction kit, trick boost bottle and ported barrel etc etc. Sadly I only have one dog eared picture of it (pulling a wheelie up my Mum's street LOL ). Then it was onto the LC 250's and a really nice 350 powervalve. Happy days!!

I never really stopped loving those little strokers. I also miss the proper racing 50cc's

Question everything.

You never forget your first bike....

I have an old af1 from 1992 that had dream machine paintwork.

The kid won it, then crashed it and then it spent 19 years in a garage ! I then bought it , and now it's spent 6 years in a garage !

It even has a painted signature on it...
