Louis are good to deal with,I always drop into their northern store when I visit Vienna as it's just up the road from my daughter's house. Like a foreign J & S or the old Hein Gericke, this particular branch https://www.louis.eu/service/filialen/louis-wien-nord is that big they have an aircraft hanging from the ceiling as part of their clothing display. No,I don't know why,but it sets a jungle sort of vibe that's quite pleasant. I saved a wedge of cash by buying my Daytona boots over their on holiday rather than here when the exchange rate was in our favour. |

I love those sorts of stores.....so much stuff to look through that you need to spend ages looking at it all....
I also like the Daytona boots. I went through a few pairs and skipped them the last time, but I'll be going back. I just need to get a little more use out of the current ones I have.... |

Got a bit done today.
I had a leaky right hand side fork seal so stripped that leg and got a new seal into it. It didnt go as handy as I would have liked as it appears I assembled it slightly wrong the last time and it threw me a bit when I put it back together again. I'd say the first time I did them, I copied the layout of the way they came out and they must have been wrong. Then came home and started routing the loom and got the rads back in. The mounting bracket always sat funny, and the screw holes that take the belly pan screws were always tight so I reshaped the bracket and ran a tap through the holes just to sort that out. The loom routing was a little confusing but I think I have it someway correct. Nothing is under pressure or tight so it must be there or there abouts correct. I cleaned the throttle body in the ultra sonic cleaner and they came up lovely. Even though they were clean looking, the amount of black and grit in the cleaner after was impressive. It may not make a huge differance in the running of the bike, but it's nice to know they are as clean as they can get really. So what's left............finish the wiring, sort the tank out with the corroded water run off, install the oil cooler and pipe work, clip ons and brakes etc and then do the coolant and oil etc and see/hope she runs ok.....๐คญ Getting there..... |

I really lost the motivation in my head to get past the wiring loom phase but just stuck at it last night and got it 90% done.
Your right though, definitely some satisfaction in getting all the frustrating elements done. The engine is all sorted now anyway. Its plumbed and wired and I've double checked all torques etc. Tomorrow night I'll probably get the front and rear brakes back together and bled and mounted, then the nose side pieces, headlight, and clutch etc done. I reckon 2 more night and I'll be screwing plastics back on....... I'll run her first obvo and make sure she doesnt p oil everywhere from somewhere that oil forgot to tighten a clip or something...lol |

So got the front end sorted out tonight.
Bit of a pain in the ass to be fair but after a little fettling of the loom, the headlight unit sat in better and the nose sat on nicely. Got the oil filter In pegs, header pipes and collector unit. One question I'd like a response on from anyone in the know though.......the alloy bracket that holds the rear brake master cylinder down on the right side is bolted to the engine casing by large bolts. These also are exposed to engine oil, and I assume that they need tightened properly to make sure oil doesnt leak out.. I put two copper washers on each of these two bolts, one on the inside and one outside. Does anyone know if this is ok or should the bracket seal the casing without them? I also connected up power to the bike and everything lights up the way it should so no apparent issues yet. One thing that is really annoying me is that a can of expanding foam leaked in the shed and a little got onto the front wheel. I remember seeing it ages ago and thinking, ah, that will be grand, I'll clean it off some other time. Well it ate the powder coating so knowing myself, I'll be getting that wheel redone. I have a spare rear rim so may get gbe two done at the same time. Next jobs are: Fill with oil (I think 3.9lt with filter, going for 15w40) Fit Airbox and tidy up connections. Fits body work to the rear Find where I put the rear brake switch....its lost....lol Fix the fuel tank properly Fill with coolant Hope for no leaks Run the bike....... Fun times........ |

Ref pics Check on your profile if you have filled your 30MB allowance of photos. You can delete and make space perhaps and then you can post without adding links. Found out that's why I had an issue posting pics on the parts I am selling!

It's been a while since I've been on here.
In this time, I have the bike back on the road. She is running sweet, except for a few niggly ssues. First one is cam chain noise. When revving at approx 3500 going up, the chain sound like it wants to escape from the front cylindar. To try to remedy this, I'm about to strip the bike to replace the front tensioner with one from my spare engine. I've primed it with oil and it goes rock hard so I know it's good. Second job are the oil pipes from the oil tank to the engine and then to the cooler. There is a seep on the rear pipe and I think this is coming from the pipe end. I had to replace two coolant pipes as I saw coolant leaking from the fibres of the pipes and replacing it fixed the issue. Hopefully the oil pipe being replaced will cure this issue. I'm going to take the rads out and repaint them too. They are badly chipped on the sides so while I have the coolant out, I'll tackle that job. I got some VHT black from Halfords to do this job. Lastly, my wrists are suffering a little when driving her. I bought 1" raised clip ons from Ebay and they arrived in a week. I'll chage over to these and see what they are like. Hopefully they will make driving the bike a little more comfortable. The show goes on...... |
