just picked up what was meant to be a winter hack 1200 bandit,
2001 last of the mk1 in blue/grey for £1600. only 20k miles and lots of polished bits and new reshaped/recovered seat, dynojet, delkavic end can (just took baffle out, sounds quite evil!) tbh,its too bloody nice to use in the salt ect ffs!mrs wont be happy lol. few other bits to get mirror polished to finish it off,but its a bit of a riot to ride tbh! feels alot beefier than my old yam xjr1300! |

I hope you have a good supply of acf50 for the winter, looks very clean and I remember mirror polishing everything on my old exup, never again as I think my finger prints have only just come back.

Well worth it and a propper hairy arsed blokes bike .
My mate Jim put 127000 miles on his with no dramas. He just keapt on top of it . It's right about the bad weather though, showed it a photo of a rain cloud and the paint on the motor just fell off I really like it. Big un ,chip butty Saturday morning? Via Moto for the bike then over to CMC for the cafe if your interested. We will be there for around 9.30. |

That's a well looked after bike; would be a pity to let the salt at it.

That's a beaut. Good buy you got there.
Looking at your back wheel, and assuming you've got balancing weights on both sides of the rim....I'm guessing you've got 90gm's + ? Never seen anyone use that much before. Has the tyre been mounted on the rim correctly? (Light spot adjacent to the valve?) I get pissed off if I have to use any more than 20gm's

God knows mate.never paid it a thought.lol
Well spotted though!! Rides and handles luvly,if a bit on the soft side, specialy compared to the tuono! Sounds meaner than any other il4 ive ever owned though,r1,gixer thou ect. Sounds a right beast. I realy love these tyres too, road pilot 3's. Had them on my 5jj r1 and they were a brilliant all round tyre and lasted ages! |

That motor is stronger than anything made by Ducati and Aprilia combined.
As long as you keep your eyes on the valve clearances as they tend to stretch the exhaust side ,you have no problems. Big un,it's hardly a hack, christ, it's great ! |

cheers lads,i do like a bit of cleaning/detailing...same with the car.
i miss having the polished rims, lots of nice cleaning and adds extra bling when all polished up. its a cracking little bike, does everything perfectly with no fuss at all. easiest bike ive ever ridden to wheelie too ffs! doesnt need a front wheel lol. i can see why they were a stunters favourite for a long time. |

Had quite a few of them loved them all
If it ever struggles to start there's a little cap on the bottom right tube you take it off let it drain refit and usually good to go Watch out if using bunged they tens to scratch easily where they clip on |

The more I look at the latest stuff and especially the sports bikes I wonder what they are doing producing these tiny bikes that many people don't fit on without looking like orangutans and completely unnecessary power output. Also just like cars they are becoming impossible for the home mechanic to work on or even diagnose faults.
It's funny though, with cars I can see the advancement and I am fascinated by the tech but with bikes I just don't get it. Maybe I'm just getting old - or need to try some of the new stuff. |

Horses for courses really, with prices going up all the time and road conditions getting more 3rd world is it really necessary to have a few more bhp?
Plus I always find with a new bike I get really stressed about the first blemish appearing In an ideal world I'd quite fancy trying a V4 Tuono, but it would be severe overkill for what I need, with the potential to get me into all sorts of trouble both financial and with the law. We're all seduced by the marketing people and the to*sers on More Crap Nonsense that we have to have the newest thing available. |

tbh the new stuff bores me.and ive never gotten caught up in the magazine hype ect.
i like a bike that feels special,or makes me feel special and flatters my ham fistedness lol. theres a few bikes that are brimming with character, and some often overlooked, the rsv is one,the original r1 being another special bike for me,the k1 gixer 1000 was meant to have wiped the floor with it so i wanted one for ages, meant to be as special as the r1 but more of everything...but it wasnt half the bike. the kwak zx12r was another unbelievable machine and suited me perfectly, i will have another one day. this bandit is the same, cheap as hell and not the best build quality or components, nothing special but it just has that something that expensive new bikes barely have, and the power is right where you want and use the most, and plenty enough of it tbh. |
