My mate is having issues with his generation 2. Side stand light lights up when starting. Bike won't start. Problem is, the side stand switch has been cut off and wires soldered and heat shrunk. Any ideas?

It can only be a broken connection,is it at the stand or at the plug behind frame under airbox?

If the wires are joined together the light should be out

he has cut the plug/connector off and done a good solder and heat shrink job. It should work but the light comes on and the bike refuses to start. This is an intermittent fault. Some times it works normally.

Without looking at the wiring diagram,it's either a loose pin at the ecu or bad earth.i don't think it would be to hard to trace out

Sorted. I think!
It seems that, for some reason, when he had the panels off to do the side stand switch soldering, he removed the tip over switch. When he put it back on the bike he put it on the wrong peg, leaving it at an angle rather than being upright. No fired it up yet as he is in the process of cleaning and spraying all the electrical connections. He will also take the opportunity to check his dogbone bearings.

Once its all back together it should be sorted.
