I would say the rsv. Better chassis and weight distribution. But less power. Not load's. Also if you crash the sp you'll be crying all the way to the bank to get the funds to repair it.

At the moment I'd say the SP1 would be a better investment. Getting collectable.

I thought the rsv-r has a bit more power standard...the sp1 is good, but 34k on the clock.... he wants a bit of money on top obviously about 1000pounds, i just dont know if its worth it, i will ride it soon on the road and see how it goes, i will post the feedback from the ride here, and try to compare them, will do my best to push it,depending on the weather.... i just wanted to ask for advice first, it seems very hard decision,
Thanks a lot everybody !!!

I've run with a mate on a SP1 on the roads and on track and I'd say the Honda for any number of reasons.
In no particular order Appreciating classic Honda build quality They sound awesome with decent cans Don't believe all you hear about the handling either, they go well. Exclusivity ? Well you know what I mean Apes are pretty much available cheap all the time, unlike the Honda which will hold it's value far better I think. |

I wouldn't compare them against each other as such...obviously you're more at home on the ape (you've had it a while and know it well) you don't ride the SP all the time. |

well, thats not true i had the rsv-r for 2 weeks, its mint, but im not used to it, i have ridden inline 4 all my life, gsxr-s mainly, im new to v twins...so it will be good and fair comparison as i think im experienced rider, and a bit neutral at the moment... i had my first gsxr 10 years ago...the rsv is better, except the engine....it needs a lot of tuning and money dumped in it to come even close to gsxr 1000, but again, RSV-R its better trackbike if both compared stock K1/K2 and stock RSV-R 2001/2002 , but thats just my opinion

sp-1 all day long.
my fave v twin, looks, sound, quality, only going up in value. gorgeous if flawed dream bike imo. sh*te tank range, needpower commander for snatchy fueling but what a stunner. lusted after one for years but they never come down in value and havent done for a long long time cos ive been watching them everytime ive been ready for a new bike. |

I've had both , On the road RSV all day long , One the track the SP would just edge it (and its a just).
As Big Un says sh*te fuel economy , snatchy fueling, rock hard suspension , electrical issue's but if you are into twins you need an SP-1 in your life at some point.

I've never used a VTR SP1. They say the SP2 is much much much better. The VTR seems to be very heavy and with less power than the rsv. surely it won't have any electrical problem. If you are a Joey fan, maybe you'll like it. ;)

here's my previous R with best mates SP, we used to be out every summer weekend and the two sounded great together swapped a few times, in my opinion the sp had more power, looked great and the gear-driven cam whine was awesome but I always felt my ape had the edge in terms of handling (well it is basically an enlarged rs250 chassis)
Funnily enough, after said mates first go on the ape his response was "much as I hate to admit it, yours is definitely better in the bendy bits!" |

Always found sp1's a bit like a 600 srad to ride , not like an ape or other vee twins TBH
Need to be doing 90 to make sense , maybe the PC and other mods make them better 60 mile tank range also a pain , but my ktm's as bad that way Stunning HRC build quality and will only go up in value Mike |

I only got into rsv's because i was gonna buy an sp1.....Wanted a twin and wanted affordable reliability (at the time the sp1 was affordable) but after doing months of research everything was pointing at a gen2 Factory; cheaper, more reliable, smother power delivery, better suspension and breaks, better value and better looking) The final straw for me cus i thought the sp1 looked quite good was walking up to one. Up close they look ugly!

OK now time for my review... I rode the SP1 all day yesterday, dry weather, managed to push it, and....and....the RSV-R is just better handling bike in all senses- stops a lot faster than the nisin brakes on the Sp1, shifts from side to side faster, you can 'dive' into corners better and maybe exit better, but....midcorner and holding a long lean angle on a bumpy road-the SP1 just stays there and doesnt move...i think its more stable on holding a cornering line, but only on uneven tracks, this may be simply due to its weight-its a lot heavier and smaller than the RSV-R, and it has good suspension too..its hard to disturb the chassis. Im 6feet (185cm) and the SP1 is quite uncomfortable for me its too small, and the worst is the seat height is very low...thats not very sporty is it? but it may be better for shorter riders, even if its not better in theory for a sport machine... again thats only my personal opinion on both bikes im not expert, especially on vtwins, ive ridden gixers for 10years...but from what i can see now with a bit more power on the RSV-R i can beat most inline 4s on track (same gen) btw anybody here who has competed on any level? im planning to race this old beast next year, and im a bit confused which racing club to join...i live in london, and i wonder whats best for future, just in case im good, how and where sponsors will notice me? i dont know much...

forgot to say, the sp1 feels a bit more powerful + smoother deilvery, my RSV-R is bone stock, and the SP1 has only micron end cans, no eprom or PC on any bike...

thanks, can you actually win something at end of season,or is it just personal investment to show to someone that you can ride a bike, and hopefully get sponsored for future events? and how does it compare to BEMSEE ?
Cheers for the info

thundersport is run by the previous management of BEMSEE (Dave and Bernie Stewart), it seems to be a stepping stone for a few.
When I last raced Thundersport was very competitive with some very tasty riders, (I raced with BEMSEE when Dave and Bernie ran it) they run a very tight ship ... plus its televised for those tarts that want some telly time ;)
