Ok guys it's simple ..lol
To fit a gen2 wheel to a gen 1 you need to machine the disc mounting face by 2.5mm per side or machine the same amount from the calipers So 1 moves the discs in or the second moves the calipers out so that everything lines up. Money no object way to do it is fit a bling tactic gen2 or late gen1 radial set of ohlins. Or budget version radial showas. |

Cheap way is get some machined disc carriers though I wouldn't recommend machining the actual calipers

Are you saying to machine the carrier mountings Ian? I wouldn't have thought there was enough meat on them. |

Of course the way to do it is go have some discs made that have a 2.5mm offset difference over a standard disc.

I seen pics of it done on AF1,it only needs 2.5mm skimming off up to whatever dia it needs to clear the mounting lugs. If I did them though I'd just mill individual pockets rather than a full dia skim, even the same fasteners could be used again without mods, just with a 2.5mm spacer/washer under the screw heads. I was looking for the posts and pics regarding this over on AF1 last night but I gave up after a while. Not something to be taken on without access to decent equipment though as all the pockets /skimmed area would need to be parallel and flat, although the semi floating bobbins should allow the disc to float and take up a small amount of out of true. |

As far as I am aware, a Gen1 front wheel is 110mm and a Gen2 is 115mm so...
Gen1 will fit a Gen2 with disc spacers (2.5mm either side) that I believe Griff sells at AP. Gen2 wheels need to be reduced by -5mm, 2.5mm either side. Now if you machine the hubs down they will only ever fit a Gen1 again so harder to sell and you need to find someone to do it. Myself I took 2mm of either calliper. This still give plenty of clearance for the discs. The callipers have plenty of meat on them to loose 2mm on the fork mounting points (I run Brembos) this cost my £40 at a CNC shop. If you want to put the OE Brembo wheels back on I fit a M12 penny washer which is exactly 2mm to shim the callipers back out. So far so good. never had a problem, cheap and I can say OZ Gen2 evo wheels look and feel great on a track. Dont forget to change the rear shock rebound As for the back its a straight fit, hub centres and rim width are the same. hope this helps

Easiest way for sure, the only problem comes when you sell the bike and someone else changes the wheels they sells it on again.
I've seen several queries on forums over the years with people wondering why their calipers rub on the discs. I expect many people will be in this situation soon if they hang onto their old gen 1's due to early front Oz's being like unicorn sperm. |

I just bought a pair for 450 rather then pay 3-450 for a front only Now there a gen1 bike for sale on ebay with gen2 wheels I asked him what he did to fit them ..machine the wheel or caliper Here's his answer Hi Mark thanks again no the wheels were exactly the same contrary to what a lot of the forums suggest discs are exactly the same width apart and overall width and spacers are identical hope that helps thanks again Dave |

Funny you should say that Mark. I just bought a gen 2 front wheel for my gen 1 the guy i bought it off said he had it fitted to a gen 1 and it doesn't appear to have been machined down at all. I haven't tried fitting it yet so hoping it all just slots in. Although i have a ducati 3 spoke front wheel on at the moment and it has washers fitted behind the caliper bolts, i'm guessing to space it out to the right dimension.

Are there any differences in the distance between the bearing seats or different spindle mounting spacers required between Gen 1 and Gen2?

if you have the chance to get a set of the Gen 2 proper light weight wheels (not the oz copies) its defonately worth it. The bike feels better due to the lower unsprung weight, turns quicker, brake quicker and the acceleration is better. I am sure most people will agree, its not all about the power its how you use it. A well set up bike with suspension good breaks and lighter wheels will perform better.

Makes you wonder if different markets got different sized wheels
My only take on the wheel widths came via AF1 and as they seemed to be sure of their facts so I just accepted it. Obviously trust no one but yourself. But I second the difference that Oz make compared with Brembo's,I found I was turning into corners far too early when I retro fitted the Oz,and that was on roads I know well and I was using the same reference points as previously. |

Correct me if I am wrong, there are two sets of Gen2 oz. the Evo forged and a copy of them. Made of something heaver but made to look like OZ. I have seen the latter advertised as OZ wheels and they as stated are reps.
One of the best things fitted to my track toy. Forgot to adjust the rear shock as the ligher wheel would spin up more. A little help form a good friend and we tweeked the rebound and its perfect!! |

Reviving this topic with a question. How can you identify the difference between the different variants of the OZ wheels and the copy oz wheels

AF1 do spacers so you can use the thinner ones in either gen.
And just for the record Gen1 OZ's have a slight ridge running round the centre of the forging between the spokes, later versions are flat there. |
