Hey guys im looking to buy a 04 RSVR factory, trading my ZX6R 2007 for it. RSV has done around 5k and is priced at 5k, does this sound about right. Bike is totally standard, is there anything i should look out for or ask about. havent taken it out for a test ride yet (hopefully Saturday). Thanks in advance
Phil

Hi mate
Make sure it has had the recalls in particular the swingarm as the original cracks.
04 bikes have some electrical issues also (statir wiring) so make sure the charge voltage on the dash looks good. Around 13 plus volts with a little revs.
Ohlins Fork seals can leak so check for weaping.
There are lots of threads on stator issues and fixes or PM Joe who have kept stator suppliers in business single handedly.
Basically a very sound model if you get the few known bugs ironed out.

Ok took the factory out for a test ride today and got on really well with the bike, i am now really confused about trading in my ninja, not sure what to do, i enjoyed the ride on the factory but love my zx6r. both have pro's and cons and i really cant make up my mind. Just wish the factory had all the mods my ninja has, as i will be starting all over again

If you dont want to start modding.............keep the zx
IF you do go for the Rsv.....make sure the mileage is correct.....04 and 05 had iffy dash's..( changed under warranty on SOME ) ....the mileage would reset to ZERO if battery went flat or dissconnected...................and can't get it back

the way to tell the rear swing arm has been changed is the bracket holding the bottom chain guard on, if the bottom chain guard is screwed on to the bottom of the swing arms its self it aint been changed
Mine has never been changed eventhough its registered with aprilia as being changed very very naughty so im setting off ona mission to get it changed |

i dont fined mine to expensive to run fuel wise, they are quite pricy to maintain parts aint cheap, factory fit imobiliser std, the factory model has some very nice kit on it plenty of carbon,Ohlins etc
If you keep on top of the maintenence cleaning the electrical contacts and remove some of the dodgy ones connectors that is, (BB1000 done some super work on what to look for) you should lessen any of the little niggles. second off if you've been on an IL4's the engine on theses is very different, the bike you rode my not have been setup proper ie did it have std cans? i've just had mine done by the master of all that ia aprilia Griff at ApriliaPerformance my co2 was well out its been balenced out and believe you me it rides superb. i came off a ZX9r which would corner no where near as well as the Aprilia especially through a series on bends its a much more confident machine to ride. Look at the suspension adjustment for your weight i think the std setup it to 80kg's rider weight the adjustment aint to difficult to do. BB right about the milage mine reset MOT's service records are a good indicator. Std sprockets are tosh mate 15/42's better and bigger than a 42 and you'll be looking at the clouds everytime ![]() you have to remember you do get problems on jap IL4's hope this helps |
