Ive got Ohlins non radial forks from a 2002 gen 1 mille.
One fork is definitely bent, so I took it apart to learn a bit about forks (something to do during lock down) and to see for myself the bentness of the stanchion. So I roll the stanchion on a flat surface the best I can. With the fork bottom still attached and hanging off the end of the kitchen table. It looks dead flat or straight. Now I'm a noob with bent forks and I assumed it would be the stanchion that was bent. So I was surprised that when I rolled the outer tube – it is very obvious that it isn't straight. Is this not uncommon. The outer tube rolls all the way round easily so its much easier to spot the deformity. When I rolled the stanchion it was more of a rotate 340 degress, but I couldn't see any gap change between the tube and the table! I was planning to send the stanchion off to get straightened, but it may just be the outer tube that needs straightening. Does this sound possible to you knowledgeable people? The outer tube being bent but not the stanchion????

If the forks were fully compressed when they hit whatever bent them ( as in hard on the brakes) then the fork stanchion is heavily supported up inside the leg of the fork. So most of the force of an impact will be through the fork leg which usually bends just below the lower clamp. Provided there are no cracks or creasing they can probably straighten it.

They were indeed fully compressed when the bike and I slammed into a trailer that some twat was pulling who turned across my path!
The outer fork tube, is that what you call the fork leg? What you say makes sense, hope it doesn't cost too much! Darren at MCT sorted a shock for me last year and seems a very decent guy! |

Motoliner fixed a dent and deep gouge to the rim of the front oz wheel that got damaged in the same accident.
They did a superb job!

I've used a local hydraulic ram repair company to straighten and hard chrome some in the past, they never pit again.

Well I got it back from Motoliner in double quick time.
Tommy there also welded on a mudguard bracket that got snapped off. I didn't have it so he used one that he had kicking about. All for a reasonable price too.
