My Gen 1 Tuono's insurance is due in 4 days. Rang Bennetts because I'd not had a renewal come through to be told for some reason I wasn't on their renewal system, so they had to generate a quote as though I was a first time customer. Quote was higher than I expected and compulsory excess was £500.
Tried a few internet searches for quotes but none of the comparison sites mention modifications.
I've had it with Bennetts, this is not the first time they've f**ked up for me.
Long story short, I'm after recommendations for companies that quote with mods please, with low-ish compulsory excess if possible.
Must be some decent quotes out there, I'm an old bastard with full NCB and no claims / convictions.
Cheers.

People say I don't know Jack Sh1t; but I do, he lives next door.

I've never had a problem with Bennetts but I do alternate between them and Carole Nash every 3 or 4 years.

Try Adrian Flux if you have lots of mods as they don't get fazed by anything

OK, thanks, keep 'em coming please.
I changed my search questions and found some comparison sites for modded bikes.
Tried one so far, they accepted all mods, halved Bennetts quote and excess down to £350; that's with Performance Direct, although never heard of 'em before. Bike Sure were £117, next ebike at over £200.

Not had the chance to try for myself yet (but most certainly intend to come that time of year) but have only heard good things from friends about bemoto. Say that you came from 44teeth and you'll get something. Previously has been £500 excess contribution...

My '09 Gen 2 Tuono was £123 through Bennetts.

I think it was a few £ cheaper with one of the others but I'd heard too many stories about not wanting to know if you claim to want to risk them.

I always do compare the meerkat, I've found most insurers have a list of mods that are classed as standard in terms of insurance premiums, eg cans, filters etc.

Yes, but chipped ECUs isnt one of them, the generic mods allowed by insurers is very basic and I'm guessing most on this forum exceed them.

So, looks like I finally sorted it. Funnily enough the ECU chip / exhaust / rearsets etc weren't a problem, but there was no option to select after market handle bar levers or gearing changes online and when mentioned to Performance Direct on the phone, they were unable to quote.
bemoto came in at £243 with £600 excess (wtf!).
Finally talked to Grove & Dean (brokers) which gave an online quote of £143; the handlebar levers and gearing added £8 when I talked to them over the phone, excess £350. Their policy is underwritten by Ageas, who I've heard of and been insured with before.
I'm sure my mods are not much different to many on this forum, in fact reading posts here, some have a damn sight more, I have to wonder if some folks are not declaring all their mods.
Also, G&D are not the only brokers to quote Ageas, but the only people so far to quote with all my mods. It's a bloody minefield.

Be careful if using comparison sites. Even if you list your mods and get a quote this info often isn't passed through to the insurers and the quote you get won't be valid. You often need to enter the info again on the insurers site or by phone.

Can't remember now...Honestly,I think it was a banner sponser for some racing series but as I don't watch the racing these days I'm out of touch.

Regardless of broker my insurance usually tends to be underwritten by the same place. This year was different though

I'm not sure if I mentioned control levers to be honest but a lever is a lever, there's no performance increase or risk escalation.

I may well go back to Adrian Flux next time as they were really cool last time with the Mille and mods.

My T is standard apart from shortie levers though so mods not an issue.

Flux don't get fazed by something like an RG500 engine in a 250 chassis apparently, when I declared the mods they didn't even class them as mods, they expect old bikes like these to have morphed a bit over the years and something like aftermarket cans is the new norm and far cheaper to replace in a claim.

Lets face it even in performance terms these old donkeys are blown away by modern 600's and the early ones probably get classed as classic due to their age and size

This is so very true, even direct through the company website I'm forever having to correct details when the paper work arrives,in fact I've declined at least one company due to that.

My preferred option these days is generate a quote online and then phone and complete with a person on the other end, even then you don't always get things going smoothly.

It's sometimes better to speak direct, they seem have quite a bit of leeway on extras and prices if you're pleasant and work with them rather than trying to chisel them down.

Out for a blast with my mate on his rc8 this morning and his bike spit the chain down the road, thought no problem he's got recovery on his insurance through Bennet's, they only cover him for breakdowns upto 10 miles from home, f**king useless so I've had to do a 120 mile round trip to get the van and recover him.

I have to say that speaking to Flux is the most pleasant dialogue I've ever had with an insurance company.

They actually phoned to ask why I didn't want to renew through them and then agreed I was best going as a new customer somewhere else due to new customer bonus's.

I trusted them to sort things quickly if I ever needed them, having said that I ended up using Carol Nash and the policy was underwritten by the same company ,Equity Red Star I think, that I was with previously Confused

Probably best if one could go direct to an insurance company and bypass the brokers entirely
