Aren't the longer filters blamed for low oil pressure issues?

Don't take my comment as gospel but I'm sure I heard something about that although it may have been only Gen1's

The small filter restricts oil at high rpm.
the large one give low pressure at low rpm.

Such is the Internet !

The small filter came first, then went large.....

I have never seen anything about the short filter restricting flow at high revs, where did you see that?

According to Griff when I discussed it with him, the only reason they went to the large filter was that Aprilia needed a new supplier due to the cashflow problems they had at the time. Mine has the short filter and I asked Griff if he would recommend changing to the long one and he said no.
