Ok, so I thought I'd do a "bike project" thread as I've bought a Gen 1 that's, let's say, rough around the edges!! It's got a good strong, 15k mile motor and with griff coming up at the end of the month, will get the man to tune it up. So far, I've got the following to do...

1- Full strip down, remove and grease all nuts and bolts, replace a few missing ones and drop all bodywork at painters
2- fit radial Showa forks
3- remove dogbone linkages, check, regrease and refit with Kevs washers
4- Fit ohlins shock
5- Drill out tank breathers
6- fit ohlins steering damper (when I've paid John!!)
7- hopefully have a set of OZ wheels to fit
8- fit GiPro gear indicator
9- Fit AP rearsets
10- fit radial brembos (cheers Chris)
11- fit IRC radial master cylinder and lines
12- fit Accosato radial clutch master and lines
13- replace discs on front (got spares here)
14- Fit full 2-2 system
15- oil and filter change and probably new plugs (clearances checked with Griff)

Still to pick up are.....

1- SP quickshifter (heard good things and at £230 seems good quality)
2- In time a Translogic dash
3- Pc3
4- clear indicator and tail light lenses
5- replacement r&g crash bungs

So, busy few weeks ahead for me!!

Here is the "before" photos

Plenty to keep you busy pleased you got your problems sorted and your still on an ape. No gearing change? Best thing I've done to mine and the cheapest.

Well, made a start today by stripping the panels off and dropped off at painter. Set about cleaning things up on the engine itself. There are loads of rusty bolts I'll need to replace and pick up a few missing bolts too. Managed to get the front end on, just fitted this afternoon need to wait on calipers arriving and fit the spacers before it'll be done. Made up bushes for the top yoke as the radials are 51mm and axial 53mm. Bought and cut a 1mm thick sheet of aluminium and cut 3 strips at 45mm to slip between top yoke and clipon. 2 for the bushes and 1 as a drift.

More to follow

Well, a little more progress today but sadly, came to a halt with a couple of issues.

1- 1 hugger bolt snapped off and needs drilling out. Need sharper drill bits so no on hold
2- bigger issue is a completely siezed swing arm bearing, tried for about 2 hours but is absolutely shagged. Have up tonight as was getting f**king angry so taking a day or two away.

Need to order a complete set of linkage bearings and drill bits.

It's in pretty poor state, don't think it's been cleaned for a while so reckon about a weeks worth of degreasing required, it's pretty rotten!!!

Got the exhaust off and new clipons on. Swapping Translogic dash over next week and fit new exhaust system when I've managed to get the bearing out😡😡😡

It's turning into a bit of a task now sadly!!

Got a little bit done today, new linkage bearings, pins and spooky washers all fitted. Got the ohlins shock on too. Only downside was the paddock stand bobbin snapping in the swingarm. New drill bits needed to drill it out and order new bobbins.

That's great mate, thanks!! They do look crap though I must admit!!!

As for the Gen 2 seat unit...... It takes a fair bit of dremeling to get it to fit but it does go on. The bolts that secure the gen 1 seat unit are used but you need to line it up and drill the holes to match the mounts. In time I'm going to fit a gen 2 subframe to my road bike and see how that works. It'll need the frame mount rotating 90 degrees but hopefully should be doable.

Bit more work today, did an oil and filter service and fitted the new exhaust system. Bad point is the sensor for the quickshifter is goosed so got an IRC strain gauge sensor ordered which I'll wire up to the Translogic kit.

Still got the swingarm bobbin to remove but will get to that.

A little more progress this week. Rearsets fitted along with quickshifter and PC3. Just waiting on radial clutch master cylinder and wheels from griff before I can get it running and set up properly.

Got the Translogic dash to fit and will hopefully get to that this week.

A bit more done today, all going well I'll have it road ready this week.

Accosato clutch cylinder arrived so fitted and bled up with new hose. Dash swapped over from race bike and wired in. A bit more getting with the bellypan tomorrow and start refitting everything. After that, just tyres to be fitted to the oz wheels and she's good to go.
