Top day yesterday with Owen (blacklines ) really good to meet up. My first time there, what a cracking circuit! The ZX6R and RSV were pretty evenly matched. Roll on the next oneSmile

Yeah was a brilliant day Adam. The bikes were definitely well matched. I had a slight edge on corner exit but the ZX6R had a slight edge midway down the straight. Meant most session we spent chasing each other didn't it. Was good following and seeing you putting black lines down through Schwantz curve. Shame my camera died before lunch as I think we were both really onto it by then. The last session I think was my best, which would be a first for me as I usually peak early in the day.

Here's a shot from Redgate anyway. Going to go through the footage when I get a chance.

Good pic lads.

Aggressive style Adam.

Naturally I’ve crashed (twice) at that bend so know it well.
First time I hit the apex a bit early and too high speed and ran out of track. The second a gold old fashioned high side in the wet.

Get the vid up soon pls Owen 👍🏻

Watching the footage back I realise I was shifting super early most of the time. I drove down with the trailer trying to get an average of 45mpg and think I might have carried that mentality across haha. In some ways I think these bikes flow through corners better in a higher gear, but I was definitely losing out on power not making the most of it above 8k rpm.

Here's session 4 with me following Adam. Can spot his bike by the orange stripe on the tail and green wheels. Start from about 4:30 to skip the outlap and that:

Can see how much the ZX6R has come on since Trigger though. Adam and I were fairly evenly matched on power. Then from around 9:30 I get behind a modern 6R (high viz yellow leathers) and he pulls away every single straight. Get alongside him on corner exit and then away he went again.

Then here's session 3. Watch Adam come flying past me towards Melbourne loop at 1:55. Pretty much leaves me for dead with his much better confidence in traffic and overtaking. Where I hesitate, Adam's ahead making another calm and clean pass. Only catch him again around 7:10.

Really gutted I didn't have any footage of the afternoon. The last session I finally remembered to use the lap timer thing on the Mille dash. First lap I remembered it was 1:57 in traffic. Then the rest of the session was clear ahead of me and I just relaxed into it and worked on my markers and that. Next lap I thought I could carry a bit more speed into McCleans. Went in quicker and still felt like I could have gone much quicker. But that was 1:56. Then I did that, but also ran in quicker to Melbourne loop. Previously felt like I'd wasted a lot of time coasting in. Sure enough, no dramas there, could have gone faster still and that was 1:55. Then I just worked on being smooth and was doing 1:54s the rest of the session with a big grin on my face. In my elephant.

Only place I wish I had a bit more time to work on was Goddards. Every single time I tipped in there I felt far too slow. Just waiting for the apex to finally come round. For me to realise that yet again I'd turned in too soon ha. Well overall I was very pleased with my progress. Hadn't ridden in 2 years and was 6 seconds quicker than last time. Not just that but I had loads more confidence in my entries and trail braking.

That's on the compk tyres too. Last time there was on supercorsas, which give me a fair bit more confidence on the very edge. For comparison, my first day at Catalunya on the old SC scrubs I was knee down most corners. 2nd and 3rd day on the CompKs and my knee only touched down a couple of corners. Pace still there, just less confidence to really lean it over. Cleaned up really nicely though, compared to the state of them after Spain:

Looking forward to seeing if Adam got any decent footage too. Never seen myself in motion on track so would be curious what I look like. Been told my lower body stays put and I only move my torso ha.

That pesky modern 6R definitely had the legs on us both, I've got that session and I'll upload it when I'm off work to see the same session from my perspective for a great comparison in bikes. You can really hear the difference in revs my little 6 screaming its tits off!

Really was a brilliant day and I have to get back there now I know my way around a bit and work on my braking as you were a lot stronger than me in that area.

Couple more pictures of the old girls. Think they both still look good today and don't look ridiculously out of date compared to that 2020 GSXR thou next to them. Bit biased but I reckon that early gen 1 shape is beautiful.

Good stuff fellas.

I’m at Donny this weekend helping out in Bemsee (not riding) there is a couple of Gen1’s in thunderbike extreme/ultra as it goes looking the part

Dave Molyneux and Maria Costello both in the same garage with their respective sidecars. Molyneux’s has a KTM 890 V twin in it. There is no way that passed noise testing it’s extreme!

V twin sidecar! Never heard of them but they make a lot of sense.

Until now Owen I’d not noticed or seen a v twin one.

It’s the fastest one out there currently so it’s working
