Hi,has anyone had experience with carbon wrapping, my bike fell of stand whilst running as you all may know when I was asking about levers in my previous post .
I thought it may be a solution to the damaged faring. It would be cheaper than getting it painted and getting new decals. I already have decals coming for bellypan which I had ordered before it fell.I would rather spend the money on a slipper clutch as the bike is not going to be standard with mods. Any advice would be much appreciated, many thanks Richard. |

I've carbon wrapped the fairing ears and my rear light unit on my Mille, plus a few other smaller items. But I've never tried doing it on anything larger like a fairing or bellypan. It's actually pretty easy to do if you use plenty heat from a hair drier and buying half decent quality 3M wrap helps too. I would imagine that a fairing/bellypan might be a bit tricky because of the different curves and angles involved.
You could of course take it somewhere which does wrapping, should still work out cheaper than a paint job.

Hydrographics (Water Transfer Printing) can give excellent results as well.

I've done a small amount of this on car various parts and got on OK with it. Big flat areas are nice and simple but curves and contours can be quite tricky which might not make a bike fairing the easiest thing to do.
If your going for it I'd recommend a good quality "bubble fee" wrap such as 3M or similar. Also prepair to steal the other halfs hair dryer to heat it up! |

ive done my frame swingarm and tail unit + some bits of the lower fairing - make sure its all super clean before you start.
go with 3m stuff also if you have to cut curves into the bits your doing use cutting tape - its like sticky dental floss - rather than cut or trim with a knife on the panels, you put the cutting tape where you want the carbon to end and overlap it - theres vids on u tube. its probably trickier to do than putting on the carbon sheets, but gives a good edge when finished |

yep its textured
only tips : get everything super clean take your time if engine is out it would be MUCH easier to do the frame spars ( you wouldnt think it but they were a nightmare - lots of heating and stretching of the wrap to make it fit) * deffo watch some u tube vids on it being done - you can heat it up a fair bit and make it stretch but there is a nack to it start on something small to get used to it good luck the tail light cover took me about an hour - but was quite satisfying when finished
