So after having my immaculate gen 1 Tuono written off just over 4 weks ago I've been out on the hire bike supplied by the third parties insurance company to try and build my confidence up again. First pitfall came when I rode up to a T junction right beside a blind bend with a hedge, I can't logically explain why, but as I couldn't see round the corner I just couldn't let the clutch out and go, sounds stupid to say and put the words down, anyhow, that was the first trip out a couple of weeks ago, thought I'd go out and try again the other day, keeping away from the busy main roads and some of the muppets that drive along them, decided to ride on the Thetford to Watton road, those that know it know what a cracking road it is, all's well until I get a small deer run out in front of me, scares the crap out of me, ten minutes at the side of the road getting myself together again and set off. Between getting to Watton and getting home again I still managed to attract 2 idiots pulling out in front of me, and I honest to God wasn't going anywhere near quick, not after the deer incident, I think it's Him up there telling me it's time to call it a day with bikes which is a great shame as I've ridden since I was about 10 or 11, over 40 years. So I've made the decision to buy the bike back from the insurance company and get her looking nice again, it's only cosmetic damage, nothing structural, and dell her, I'll also be selling a few parts picked up/changed over the years so hopefully someone else will benefit from them. Will put a few feelers out for bits once I know for definite what I need. Stay safe and watch out for the idiots out there.

Well, speaking as someone that sometimes get strange feelings telling me NOT to ride that day I applaud your decision. I think we should listen to the inner voices, although I do sometimes 'what if' I'd gone out The older I get the more I tend to listen,it IS dangerous out there, far safer on track where everyone is going the same way and medics are on hand at every likely incident point

I totally agree with the track riding Ian, have done several track days, not on the T but on my R1 I had previously and thoroughly enjoyed them all, totally addictive, not going off bikes altogether, would like to still tinker, maybe get a project to do up and sell.

Totally understand Mark. Nothing sounds "stupid to say" at all.
Sometimes if you have that feeling it's best to take heed and have a break for a bit. I've had days when I've got my gear on, something hasn't felt right, so taken it off again. No shame in that. I'm sure we have these feelings for a reason, just we've lost touch with that sense along the way as we've "progressed" One of those times, many years ago I listened to my gut feeling and didn't go out on a ride with mates. Lost a friend that day. Then felt guilty that I wasn't there. As if it would have changed anything. I never imagined the feeling would be about someone else, just thought it was my luck that didn't feel right that day. I lack confidence in fast left handers, because that is the side most of the damage favoured in my big accident and is painfull all the time. It's something I will always have to work on, because of the pain that side and association with what happened. When I can get in the zone though, despite the disabilities, I feel as good as any man, which for someone who has spent over 8 years on crutches now, is something What I found really helpful (when I still could back then) was getting back into green laning and some off roading. Out on a bike, with a mate in the countryside, relaxed and having a nice gentle crack. No pressure, no worries, just in the moment. I used to motoX as a young un and put me back in touch with things. sorry to hear that buddy. At the end of the day you've got to do what's right for you. Like Rick, I've had days when I've got gear on and decided it wasn't for me that day. Maybe having a bit of a break will change your outlook but nobody will criticise you for your decision. Stay on here anyways buddy, good crack on here always. Much respect to you brother

totally understandable Mark & tough decision when you've been riding along time also.
But you have to do what feels right.

Sounds like you're having a tough time since the accident mate, if you need a break from riding you've got to listen to those instincts. I'll be in touch when I'm your way mate we'll have a cuppa.
