Went and picked this up today. Got the odd mark here and there and needing an MOT but I'm happy with it. Few wee bits to do when I get some time.

Nice one mate. I've always fancied an early r1.
I dont know if you know mate but ppl change the clocks on them when the needle dose its own thing but its not the clocks. The needle will stop on a particular rev number and what its doing is giving you a fault code. 1k 2k 3k and so on represent a fault code. 👍

Yeah I've wanted one for years and I prefer the look of the 5jj model to the 4xv. Thanks for that I'll keep that in mind if it ever happens.

Going to use it on both I think. May only get the chance to do a few trackdays next year so thought this is a good option. With it not being a complete minter(prices are crazy) I think it's ideal for that. Going to keep an eye out few bits to change out if they are cheap enough.

Lovely bikes, I remember standing in the local dealer drooling over them when they came out. Still a modern looking bike.

cracking bikes buddy,
ive had 2x 4xv and 2x5jj also a 5pw. all an incredible ride. 5jj myy fave.them 400+ changes they made over the 4xv made it a better riders bike. keep it serviced with good oil and keep an eye on the exup valve. nice and easy to look after and service for such a weapon too.

Seems the Exup valve is seized so that will be the first job on the list. Managed to get the cover off ok but the bolts securing to the exhaust are shot. Will try and extract them before drilling them out.

yea, makes a big difference once the exups working properly pal, people forget to service them and treat them to a nice bit of grease,
and being low down, they get all the crap on them. iirc as you turn the ignition on,the exup valve runs through its open/close routine so you can usualy check if its working ok. hey up ian,im good thanks old buddy, nice to see some old faces still on here pal. hope everyones keeping well.

I got a lot of help with my build, you have to introduce yourself on the Newbie page, just the way they are, but after that they will help you as much as they can. Took me nearly 19 years to get one, I wanted that one like yours when I was younger, but ended up with a 15 model after all that time, they fetch good prices, more than the Aprilia, I see one like yours go for 4.5 grand, it was immaculate. So a good investment. Partzilla in the US do some good prices for parts even with all the shipping abd customs. Good luck, I hope you enjoy riding it 👌👍
