Loads of threads on here about oil choice, take your pick.  Big smile

My take on it is that for a big V twin like these with larger mass parts moving around, the heavier weight oil helps to maintain the oil layer between moving parts. The most important thing that an oil does inside an engine is to maintain an oil barrier between components to keep those components apart. That's why oil pressure is so important as it's the pressure that maintains the oil barrier. It's much more important than the lubrication itself.

Many use 10W40 and report no problems but it's over the long term that these things manifest themselves and then how do you prove the cause of any failure? Only by extended comparative testing which only the oil companies and the manufacturers do.

I use Motul 5100 15W50 and always have.

Either or. Some brands of oil didn’t do a 15W50 so that has more to do with it than any benefit from the different viscosity.

Depends on who's doing the recommending; 15w/50 all the way here.

People say I don't know Jack Sh1t; but I do, he lives next door.
